REVIEW: Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms ( PS VITA)
Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms is a visual novel and a sequel to Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds. The protagonist is Chizuru Yukimura who still trying to find her father.
When you start the game you have the choice to select 13 different routes which provide different story experience. Each route has different prologue which show what happened between you and your chosen man. Prologue does a good job of explaining the story but we still recommend playing the previous game.
At its surface Hakuoki is a visual novel which aims at developing relationship with different bachelors. Dive within you will find that game has lot more to offer story wise.
In the story Japan has started to open its doors to rest of the world and this brings in western fashion and more complex things like science and politics. During all this the protagonist and the chosen lover have to survive.
The Game is not completely historically accurate as demons and other fantasy elements do make and appearance.
Regardless of the path you choose, the story would be quite interesting but most path feature common plot points. Certain dialogue choices greatly impact the story. Plus, there is lot of different endings to experience.
You can skip texts which you have already read and you can rewind time so that you can pick a dialogue option which gives a response that you wanted or just to get a different reaction.
Games looks amazing on PS VITA OLED screen with detailed backgrounds and carefully drawn characters. The voice acting is in Japanese and very well done. The game music perfectly blends in with every scene and provides great immersion.
