500 esports teams in just 24 hours

Esports Players League (ESPL), the new global esports tournament network and platform, recently entered into a partnership with leading smartphone maker OPPO and Malaysian mobile telco Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) to organize the first major esports tournament in Malaysia, post Movement Control Order period in Malaysia called the OPPO Gaming Tournament Season 1.

Tournament registrations began 15th June 2020 and it didn’t take long for the tournament to reach its maximum participation allowed, i.e. 512 teams. The upper limit of the registration was reached within 24 hours of opening the registrations. The overwhelming response from esports enthusiasts is certainly an impressive feat.

Registrations have continued to come in. ESPL, OPPO and Digi are considering expanding the number of teams allowed in the tournament.

“We are very grateful for how supportive and responsive Malaysian gamers have been for our tournaments. We are pleasantly surprised by how quickly we reached our maximum limit of participation.”, commented Michael Broda, CEO of ESPL.

The tournament’s qualifiers will begin 6th July. Esports enthusiasts and PUBG Mobile fans should tune in on ESPL’s Facebook page at facebook.com/OfficialESPL for updates regarding the tournament and to watch the livestream of the Semi-Finals and Finals as teams battle for RM25,000 worth of prizes.
