INTERVIEW : How Fantasy MMORPG FWGD Evolves the Genre

We got the opportunity to ask a few questions from Yoozoo about Forsaken World: Gods and Demons.

Q1. How do you measure success of your game? Are there any particular metrics you look at?

A: We have done a lot of surveys with our players, and not surprisingly, what interests them most is the design of character classes. The game has a wide variety of classes to choose from, each with its own characteristics. By combining different talents with diverse stats and skills, players can create and customize their own unique characters. The game also offers an extensive selection of appearance designs including wings, mounts, outfits and battle souls, to meet the needs for personalized looks.

Q2. What was the inspiration behind Forsaken World Gods and Demons?

A: Our goal is to create a fascinating magical world that’s attractive to players all over the world. The world of Forsaken World has evolved for years since the birth of the original title. We have created chronicles to account for the world’s history and humanities, the relations between different races, as well as the threats from the Storm Legion. The players are invited to take part in the critical events that affect the developments of the world.

Q3. What was the development process behind bringing such a large and vibrant game to mobile devices? Are any other devices planned in future?

A: On top of the essential gameplay based on character classes and inter-server modes, we further build on the social aspects of the game such as the function of guilds, and keep introducing more comprehensive game modes to meet the needs of our diverse player base. Moreover, we keep improving game balance and debugging to ensure the game performs as well as possible.

In addition to the mobile devices, the game will also come to desktop. The PC version is in development and will be launched soon.

Q4. Please tell me more about the new character class system and how does it differentiate compared to other games? Plus, what was the inspiration behind it?

A: The diversity of character classes is a key attraction of the game. We will keep developing new classes and creating another gender option for the existing classes to offer more choices to our players. When we started to design, we hoped the class system can be differentiated from other games. As a result, there are both traditional classes and more special ones.

For example, the Vampire is a class in the game, and has been very popular. We had hoped to make the Vampire glamorous when we created it. The Vampires are very versatile with abilities to attack, leech, and transform into a gargoyle or a bat. They are considered the coolest class by many players.

Another special class in our game is the Gunner. The Gunners appear to be cute little girls. With many stylish outfits, they are popular among female players. However, carrying two-handed firearms, they are truly powerful attackers on the battlefield. We hope this would make an interesting contrast and add to the attraction of the class.

Q5. How does Forsaken World Gods and Demons handle latency and are there any dedicated servers for the game?

A: Although there is no dedicated server for the game, we have taken many measures to tackle the issue of latency. The performance of skills in the game are preprocessed, which means the movements will be immediately generated when a skill is cast without waiting for a command from the server.  Therefore, minimal latency will not affect the players’ experience. The server and clients are connected under a TCP (transmission control protocol), and there’s no cache in between, further reducing the chance of latency. Also, we have undergone multiple rounds of stress testing to ensure the latency is within an acceptable range.

Q6. Any inspiration from your prior games like Saint Seiya Awakening in this game?

A: We (YOOZOO Games) are happy to cooperate with Perfect World (the developer) and publish Forsaken World: Gods and Demons globally. We are happy to bring quality mobile games like Saint Seiya Awakening, Legacy of Discord, and Forsaken World to gamers around the world. Although Forsaken World is by no means similar to Saint Seiya Awakening, our past experience with different titles surely gives us insights on players’ needs and preference. We will try to bring the best experience to our players and hope everyone can take pleasure in the game.
