Nintendo Switch edition of acclaimed strategy inspired by Slavic myths, Thea The Awakening, enters pre-purchase today

Monster Couch, a Polish game developer who created a warmly received arcade beat’em up Die for Valhalla!, the Switch versions of 60 Seconds! and award-winning point and click adventure Steamburg, has announced that the Switch version of Thea: The Awakening is ready for launch. The game was originally created by MuHa Games and published on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Using the experience earned by bringing their previous titles to Nintendo’s hit console, Monster Couch sets to seamlessly translate Thea’s unique blend of 4x strategy, narrative RPG, survival and card game to a new platform. Thea: The Awakening for Switch will be released digitally on 1st February 2019 and is now available for pre-purchase through Nintendo eShop.

As the studio promises, Thea: The Awakening for Switch will be the “Thea you know and love”, accessible both to returning and new players. In the game they will pick up a role of ancient Slavic deity, which has to take care of its followers by helping them to build their village, explore the secrets of a dark fantasy world and fight the bloodthirsty monsters ravaging the land. All of these tasks will be realized thanks to a unique gameplay formula, that fuses the classic strategy gameplay and roguelike style, non-linear single player campaign with procedurally generated world and events. On top of that, the combat encounters take the form of a unique card mini game. Add to this an original atmosphere woven around Slavic myths and culture, along with climactic music score and graphical presentation, and Switch users can prepare for an experience like no other on their favorite platform.

Monster Couch will provide all this diverse gameplay elements with an intuitive control system designed for the Switch and its capabilities, impressive presentation on the platform, possibility of playing in each of three modes available on the console (TV, Tabletop and Handheld), and cloud backup of save data.

Thea: The Awakening for Switch will feature:

  • Unique world inspired by Slavic mythology with myriads of original narratives to explore
  • Turn-based strategy gameplay in a procedurally-generated environment – each playthrough will be fundamentally different than the last one
  • Immersive card-based mini game that is the core mechanic for combat, diplomacy and many more
  • 100 bloodthirsty enemy types based on Slavic myths
  • 270 non-linear story events and challenges, which may push the player towards victory or end in demise of his people
  • 4400 different items that can be crafted in the village or earned through exploring the world
  • Advanced character management through their unique equipment and skillsets such as battle experience, item gathering, diplomacy, healing, black magic and more
  • Build your own village – raise new structures and research new technologies
  • Day and night cycle affecting the gameplay
  • Multiple endings and rewards upon completing the campaign

The Switch version of Thea: The Awakening also marks a newest chapter in the expansion of the Thea universe. Gamers immersed in this unusual universe aesthetic can also look forward to the upcoming release of the sequel, Thea 2: The Shattering, first on PC – the game is currently available in Steam Early Access. Thea series is also expanding beyond the digital. Triglav Studio, an indie publisher from Poland, is also preparing a tabletop RPG based on the world created in the first game – The Awakening.
