PREVIEW : Catizens (PC)
The colony management simulator Catizens, created by badopticsgames and published by HeroCraft PC, draws inspiration from The Sims and RimWorld. In this universe, your task is to oversee the welfare of your cats as you navigate various levels and landscapes to protect the Cat Kingdom from a terrible volcano. You must construct a town for your peasants to live in and train in each location. Every region has its objectives that must be met before you may advance, and each cat has special abilities, qualities, and objects that can be unlocked. Will you be successful in leading these cats to victory and preserving their kingdom, or will your group perish on the battlefield?
The story of the Cat Kingdom and its perilous situation with a volcano that may potentially destroy everything and terrible beasts that prowl the plains is recounted to you at the game’s beginning. A few courageous cats are recruited by the queen of the aforementioned kingdom to risk all to defend the realm. The tutorial walks you through all the fundamentals of setting up your small town once you finish customising the two kitties you start with in the campaign mode. The cats you start with all have different occupations. For example, you start with an architect who can construct buildings for your town and a knight who can protect it from intruders.
Building homes enable you to welcome additional people into your community. However, each villager has unique characteristics that you should watch out for because they aren’t always positive. Additionally, when you are creating, you can unlock new decorations and other goods by using certain attributes.
After completing the tutorial, you advance to the following level, where you begin with a camp and a few cats that you can take with you from your previous location. To advance to the next level, you must develop a new town area and accomplish the objectives at each level.
Starting a new town every time might be challenging, so spend your resources wisely and only bring the cats that will be most beneficial to your village. To have adequate protection to explore and advance, I’ve discovered that it’s best to be a little patient when establishing your town, make sure you are strong, and train new knights when you can. I had to start again on a level since, despite my best efforts, I was completely unprepared for all the enemies I encountered while trying to find the exit. Catizens has a lot of promise and offers a lot of things you can accomplish.
Catizens is still in Early Access and might use some improvements, but generally, I don’t have any major concerns. The cats can be tricky to move and manipulate because they don’t always move the way you want them to, and there is a slight scaling problem with the difficulty. Because there are so many new, tougher adversaries to face while only having one expert knight available, the challenge between levels one and two differs significantly. It’s not necessarily a terrible thing, but it might be upsetting to have to restart the level after spending so much time there simply trying to get stronger and be more strategic. The only other thing I had problems with were the requests from the villagers, which occasionally weren’t clear or couldn’t be fulfilled. I discovered that the game’s developers are quite good at responding and upgrading the game to fix bugs after researching answers to some of the issues. Overall, even if the game has minor flaws and bugs, it is still in Early Access and has time for polish and improvements.
In the adorable management simulation game Catizens, it’s your mission to save the day and the kingdom. In this game, there is a lot to accomplish, so you must exercise patience while managing your inhabitants and making sure they don’t perish. It will inevitably have issues because it is a new early access game, but if they are fixed and polished, it has the potential to be a really good game. Even if it has some issues along the way, the game is overall entertaining and engaging in its current version.
