Helping your city take off

Finding out how to start the game and have a successful beginning is usually challenging with any city builder, but it is worth learning if you want to have great fun overall. Dream Engines: Nomad Cities makes things significantly more complicated; you only have a limited amount of city to develop with since it floats away when you need to make a fast escape, or you’ve run out of resources in the spot you’re currently boarded in. But don’t let it dissuade you. There is a tutorial to assist you in learning the basics, but you should know a few more things if you want to run a successful Nomad City.

Dream Engines: Nomad Cities —Plan Efficiently

One of the most crucial aspects of this game is to be organised with your structures, railroads, and space utilisation. While there is a limit to the number of tiles you can use in the city, you can build outside the city for defence purposes, such as walls and gates. However, you will need to place your critical structures within the city walls to be powered by the city. You’ll want your fences to be as clean as possible so that you have enough space for all of your structures. It’s a bit of a shambles in my Dream Engine metropolis, as you can see above. However, you can demolish the fences with minimal repercussions when you regain your resources, making it quite simple to restart and clean the city as needed. It displays your most essential resources in the upper left corner.

You’ll need employees to be able to have all of the other buildings in your city, such as a wood warper or a flux vat. To get more of it, you’ll need to build more dwellings, which will necessitate a steady food supply. This is why it’s critical to remember to set up a Purptato farm or two, as it’s easy to forget that you don’t have a pre-existing resource.

Tower Defense

Drep is guarding the supplies, as seen in the screenshot above. Unfortunately, they’re encircling the bloodwood supply, and you’ll have to kill them to get to it.

To ensure that you can safeguard your city when the time comes, you’ll need to stock up on repair kits to ensure Tiny’s survival. Your threat level will rise over time (referred to as a cycle in the game), and you will be subjected to Drep raids. You will encounter one very early in the game, and you will be in charge of fighting the mobs that attack the city. You will be able to construct wooden walls. They are, however, relatively thin and will not provide long-term protection. You should be fine as long as you have a good supply of wood, which you will be able to get during your initial bouts of exploration. When you are attacked, you will note that if they get into the city, they demolish the structures very quickly, which can be pretty problematic at the time.

One of the advantages is that the mobs are pretty easy to kill early on, and there aren’t many of them to deal with during a raid. It is advised that you construct a defence early on, and you can unlock better defence options through the research table, which you will have access to once your city has a larger population. You must have the repair kits for the first couple of raids. If you don’t, you’re unlikely to survive them, no matter how minor they are.

You are given time to prepare, and you will notice an indicator on the map when the Drep is approaching, which is quite helpful since you can intercept them on their way to your base and begin attacking them before they even get there. It is vital to remember that the longer you stay in the Nomad City, the more likely the Dream people will become agitated and attack you in increasing strength raids.

Travelling Abroad

The idea that your city can wander is one of the essential aspects of Dream Engines: Nomad Cities. Your city can fly, and by doing so, it may transport you to other places and provide you with supplies that you may not have had before. For example, one land may grant you access to a Tech Ruin, allowing you to develop modules that you do not already have. If you cannot construct them, you can scrap them for resources, which can be helpful. Before deciding where to go, you should read all of the notes beneath the city photos.

You must also consider if you are willing to enjoy the benefits of a town at the expense of having a higher overall threat level upon entering the city and whether you can defend your village well enough to successfully extract as much as you can out of the city you landed in. If none of the towns offered to you appears worthwhile, you can use two of your fuel to gain access to additional cities that may provide better benefits upon landing. Hovering over each icon in the above screenshot of the destinations informs you of the statistics of the spot you might end up travelling to and whether it will be worth the fuel for you to drive there. It is critical to examine these and decide whether they will have enough resources for you to survive.

Education across the nation

The research lab is one of the essential items you’ll discover early on in the game. Make sure you have adequate room for it because it is necessary for game progression and expansion. In addition, it will assist you in unlocking new supplies that you will use to upgrade your buildings, such as Starwood. Another excellent feature is that it provides free expansions if you investigate them. They will, however, take several cycles to finish, so bear that in mind if you are expecting raids and want to keep your research lab safe. Finally, make sure you have enough supplies to research, as some of them are completed fast, allowing you to go on and build more vital things, such as the Starwood armour and free expansion, as seen in my research table below.

Once you’ve obtained the research lab, you’ll need to build a workshop that will generate resources from your existing inventory, allowing you to improve your character’s stats, Tiny. It will enable you to enhance stats such as the amount of damage you deal, the amount of loot you acquire from corpses, and even the production rate in your city. It is critical to unlock this early on and ensure that you have enough satisfied workers to staff the building.

That’s all the Dream Engines: Nomad Cities tips and techniques you’ll need to get started. To safeguard your city at all costs, make sure you have enough resources, a lot of repair kits, and are ready to kick butt against Drep attacks.
