REVIEW : Airplane Mode (PC)
With Airplane Mode the cable broadcaster AMC makes its debut in the world of video games, but the qualitative heights of Breaking Bad are far away.
If the arrival of the next-gen in our homes has made the new lockdown that the (increasingly numerous) regions included in the red zone are experiencing much more bearable, there is instead a pleasure that this last year has taken away almost all of us: travel. The lack of the possibility to cross the planet to discover different cultures or flavours, or to spend the weekend in a nearby capital is only the first stage of the effects of deprivation. Then comes the nostalgia for breakfast in the hotel, the melancholy for that of tiredness at the end of the day after walking for miles and finally a sense of absence for the heavy suitcase to be dragged around.
At a certain point, even souvenirs sold by weight in gold tear a smile, but before the most total desperation, there is one last, inexorable step: the regret of not being able to spend a few hours stuck in a tight and rigid seat sipping a bad orange juice in front of a ten-year-old movie, in the cramped economy lane of a low-cost flight packed with people. If you’ve come this far on the travel abstinence scale, Airplane Mode is the solution for you.

The first game by AMC (the US cable channel that produced, among other things, that Breaking Bad masterpiece ) made by Bacronym, Airplane Mode, whose stated purpose is to bore the public, could not have come out at a more suitable time. the player catching him in a line flight of two or five hours, forcing him to reflect in the long space that awaits him between takeoff and landing. A real first-person plane passenger simulator that kicks off when our digital alter ego has already taken a seat on the seat, window-side luckily.
The tedium of transhipment from the terminal to the aircraft crammed into an overcrowded shuttle between vibrations, sharp bends and underarms beyond the limit of endurance is, however, the only nuisance linked to the flight that is avoided. All the rest of the gruelling wait until arriving at the destination is reproduced in 1: 1 scale, starting from those very long minutes in which the metal colossus lies motionless on the runway, waiting for something that mere mortals sitting inside it are not given to know, while the croaking and incomprehensible announcements of the crew add a dose of illusion for a long time disregarded. After a quarter of an hour of indecipherable immobility, even the video on the safety procedures is welcomed as a pleasant relief, a prelude to that slow, very slow movement that will finally bring our butt in the air.
