REVIEW : Block’Em! (PC)

A 2D party game called Block’Em! allows up to four people to immediately join in on some multiplayer fun both locally and online. There is no narrative; you simply control a bizarre cube-shaped monster whose visage you can select from a variety of settings. Due to a lack of substance, this does make for a good game night, but only for that one night.

REVIEW : Block’Em! (PC)

Single-screen stages with a limited selection of objectives are offered at random when you first start. Be the first cube to the target, hold out the longest while the screen progressively fills with lava, or arrange the most blocks on a screen.

Either a controller or a mouse and keyboard can be used as controls. You have the ability to jump, set blocks, and even be mean by pushing your buddies. If you briefly create an alliance in a survival battle, this final action is really brutal.

Before the game starts, a loading screen briefly shows the controls. It would have been more beneficial if there had been a brief pause to let new players get acquainted with the controls before the game quickly began, leaving you with no choice but to guess. The average match lasts under 30 minutes, therefore games don’t last that long. It makes it the perfect game to play with friends on a game night if you’re looking for something quick and simple. The problem is that the recipe quickly loses its appeal.

Play Together

To achieve the game’s ultimate victory, you must win five games. With that victory, you can rejoice in being the best among all of your friends. You don’t receive many rewards or unlockables in the game. I suppose you could always cobble together a paper crown and wear it with pride if you so desired. Consider wearing it to work for a full week so that your coworkers and friends can kneel in admiration of your brilliance. There isn’t much to Block’Em, which is why I’m rambling on so much. The gameplay and level design are not that varied.

REVIEW : Block’Em! (PC)

Graphics are plain blocks of pastel colour that aren’t particularly eye-catching. Even your game cannot be customised. Only one single-party game mode is available. Fortunately, I was able to locate an online game that I could play with four other people. The game truly performed smoothly and online matching was excellent. But even after a full game, the majority of the other players just abandoned me and one other random person, which left me feeling a little depressed. There is the option to play this game solo; all other players will be controlled by robots, the difficulty of which cannot be changed. I tried it, but it wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as playing with people.

Conclusion – Night In

Block’Em! is a straightforward game that the entire family can pick up and enjoy. It will be a fun game to play with your best friends or your worst foes on a game night. The problem with the game is that it doesn’t offer enough diversity or replay value in its gaming modes. Although it’s conceivable that more material will be included in the next updates, as it is, this is a game you’ll probably play once and then put away.
