REVIEW : Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package (PS4/ PS4 Pro)
Dead Rising games have always been weird, funny and sometimes downright disturbing. The series is not as popular as other Zombie Games franchise but it is known for its humor and sometimes is clumsiness. Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package, however, turns a new leaf for franchise, ditching old mechanics making most fun and enjoyable game in the series.
The infamous timer has been removed allowing you to explore the whole world in its entirety at any time. This makes the game way more than previous games in the series as there is no clock running down causing you to start over. It allows enough time to explore and look for blueprints and other collectibles as well as time to utilize all the weird weapons.
The variety of weapons is amazing and fall in line with series nature. Sledgehammer with explosives and Fish Launcher launching sword fish are just gruesome and so much fun. Nutcracker is a wearable helmet that shoots bullets and electric wreath is attached to zombies’ head to electrocute an entire zombie crowd.
While all these weapons are fun the Exo Suit is the real deal which can be found all around the world. The suit packs a punch and feels weighty but can still send zombies flying for miles with a single touch. The suit can also be modified with weapons such as shooting ice blasts.
Gunplay feels lot more responsive and is tighter than before and it is more viable to hold the combos. In fact, combat is so much fun because there are plenty of zombies on the screen every moment. Dead Rising 4 is not the best-looking game out there but it is impressive as there are so many things happening on screen at once still the game manages to hold framerate.
The campaign is lengthy and provides ample opportunities to hit super combos or utilize the Exo Suit. Most fights are with zombies but you will also fight mercenaries and hostile survivors. Big portion of campaign is to use Frank’s Camera and search for clues but since combat is so much fun you will be etching to go back to it.
Apart from Frank, the rest of the cast is not that interesting. While Frank’s humor saves the day, it still lets lot to be desired in variety of characters. The new and silly tone of Frank does go well with the series new direction and it is highly entertaining. The most disappointing part of Dead Rising 4 are the bosses, they are all so generic. All the bosses are the same just with different costumes and all of them want to kill Frank, there is no character to all this.
Dead Rising 4 Frank’s Big Package is filled to the brim with content which will keep you occupied and entertained for a long while. Apart from story and multiplayer (which is lack luster itself), you have Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 mini golf, it is a fun multiplayer game with a twist of Dead Rising. Lastly there is Capcom Heroes DLC which substitutes weapons for costumes of Capcom characters with each having different powers. Its really fun way to travel through Willamette again using different characters.
