REVIEW : Fire and Steel (PC)

Fire & Steel is the first part of a fast-paced, old-school arcade aerial shooter in which you play as young Dragon Aiden and burn down the powerful armies of World War II. Aiden, the ancient Dragon, awakens after a thousand years of rest to see yet another massacre. Aiden, caught in the middle of World War II between Axis and Allied forces, crushes anyone who dares to stand in his path in a maelstrom of hellfire! Fire & Steel is a unique game involving dragons and World War II. The theme and plot are excellent, but the poor frame rate makes it difficult to enjoy. I recommend that you play this game, and that you play it again if it is patched. Also, if you have a high-end computer, go ahead and play the game.

Machineguns, tanks, rifles, and heavy artillery are all poised to prevent you from wreaking havoc on humanity. Neither lead nor flesh will be able to withstand your flames.

It’s good old-fashioned arcade fun. I had a great time with this game and am looking forward to more from the developer.

Take to the skies and battle the Luftwaffe, Royal Air Force, and United States Air Force. No steel bird will be able to stop you or your righteous rage. Allow their miserable war robots to paw and bite at you. They’ll see what your hellfire is capable of in no time.

WWII’s mighty battleships have been reduced to ashes. These steel sea animals are far too heavy to flee your flames. Allow your roars to match the guns of battleships, and allow your roars to intimidate your foes. I was nervous at the start of this game because the tutorial gave me the idea that it was a clumsy game. My initial opinions altered immediately after getting into the first combat and learning to fly! It’s a pleasant game to play. I finished the game in less than three hours, which seems reasonable given the low price. I believe that more people should be aware of this game.

REVIEW : Fire and Steel (PC)

It has a pretty wonderful feel to it, and as you get better at flying, you’ll appreciate it even more. The game can feel slow and boring in the first few minutes, but as you complete those stages, things pick up and you’re met with more action, and it’s pretty much a nonstop battle after that. It’s a unique concept in comparison to other games. The storey animations and voiceovers are good. The wave system is good; it gets more difficult with time but is still manageable. The graphics are adequate. It is simple to master movement. The healing mechanic is quite inventive. Because secondary attacks are limited, it is critical to strategize ahead of time before attacking.

You progress through a series of missions, totaling 12 including the tutorial (which, to be honest, is the weakest part of the game, forcing you to fly through the tight spaces of a cave until the glorious moment when you emerge into freedom), and while they begin easy, they become increasingly difficult. You’ll need to think more tactically about how you approach each scenario by the middle of Act II, or you’ll crash and burn, and Act III rips the gloves off on Normal. If you just want to burn fools, there’s an Easy option, but Normal appears to be the intended experience. It’s not a tremendously long game; most players should be able to finish it in approximately 2-3 hours.

REVIEW : Fire and Steel (PC)

If you buy the game, keep in mind that you may use “Dragon Sense” by pressing TAB, which can aid you make combat judgments; this should benefit anyone who is having trouble with the game!

The graphics and music are fantastic.

Dodging gunfire and setting armies on fire is a lot of fun.

review-fire-and-steel-pcThe initial level (tutorial) may give the impression of a poorly controlled game. However, after a while, it becomes easier to adjust to the control scheme. The cutscenes were of good quality. Because the game has no graphic settings, be aware of this, especially because the game's system requirements are quite high.
