REVIEW : From Gamers Magazine

Do you miss reading print magazines? Do you remember as a kid getting the latest print magazine sent to your home and reading the most recent gaming news and reviews? With the way the world is currently set up, technology has complete power over the media we consume. Printed gaming magazines are a thing of the past, but for those of us who miss the tactile reading experience, From Gamers is a new gaming printed magazine. We have the first issue ready to go, so read on for our opinions on what could be the next big in-print gaming magazine.

What Is From Gamers Magazine?

The thing that got my curiosity From Gamers Magazine was its origins. It’s a magazine created by gamers for gamers, and it’s a spinoff of the gaming website Guide Fall. The entire magazine was fully funded on Kickstarter, with 150+ backers raising $6,000, all of which will go straight to the writers, designers, and artists, as well as printing and shipping costs. Most importantly, this magazine allows gamers to pitch tales for publication. Because there is no consistent team of people contributing, there is a multitude of content that can come from a different collection of writers every month, offering a new and fresh experience with every magazine issued.

As HGunified is a website that focuses on giving a voice to individuals who love and care about all things video games, I had to grab a copy of From Gamers Magazine, which offers an opportunity for anyone, regardless of expertise, to submit ideas to the magazine. Of course, the magazine is still of excellent quality despite the revolving staff of writers and freelance pitches, but giving writers a voice in a printed magazine is an incredible idea and experience.

Let us now review the From Gamers Magazine.

Content

Let’s take a peek at some of the magazine’s material. Gamers Magazine includes a variety of formats such as reviews, interviews, features, reviews, and more. This debut issue of the magazine features an eye-catching cover that everyone who has seen Deathloop would recognise right away. We open the magazine to some excellent hand-drawn images of the month’s contributors, and then we can get into the magazine’s content.

As an independent publication, From Gamers uses a variety of bright visuals to bring each story’s header to life. As you’d expect from a magazine, subjects are nicely separated up with an index that allows you to readily access any subject. Every story is a beautiful spread, whether it’s a developer interview from an indie title mixed with gameplay photographs or a full page of photographs to highlight the featured item.

Each new story, whether an interview, review, or feature, has the look and feel of a professional magazine. Even though it is independently published, From Gamers appears to be out to prove that it can compete with the big boy magazines, and I’m delighted to say that it can.

The Future of Printed Gaming Magazines?

My favourite feature of the magazine was the ability to scan QR codes to view official trailers from featured titles within the magazine. It’s a clever and simple feature that makes each review/preview come to life. Game reviews appear to be on a 10-point scale, with favourable and negative summaries and an easy-to-see score at the end. The platforms on which the highlighted titles are available are indicated by logos from the relevant systems.

REVIEW : From Gamers Magazine

The goal of the From Gamers project is to reintroduce impassioned viewpoints to gaming journalism, and I am convinced that if it continues on this route, it will succeed. Whether it’s Zack Murphy writing about “Video Game Franchises We Want To See Return” or Jamie Sharp expounding on how Arkane’s past helped construct Deathloop’s future, each writer is enthusiastic and it shows. From Gamers is shaping up to be a fantastic monthly magazine that you won’t be sorry to subscribe to.
