REVIEW : GIRLS und PANZER Dream Tank Match (PS4/ PS4 Pro)
Girls un Panzer involves Girls doing Cute things in a Panzer. The anime has gained insane popularity since its inception in 2002. A PS VITA game was released in 2014 but that was only release in Japan and exclusive to VITA. Dream Tank Match is released on PS4 and is available in English.
Please do not compare Dream Tank Match to World of Tanks and War Thunder as the game does not strive for realism but it still provides the intense feel of a tank battle. You must angle your tank in such a way that armor mitigates the damage and you can take out tracks of enemy tank resulting in your enemy being stand still. Beyond that you have a totally arcade gameplay, this is where the game excels.
Dream Tank Match follows the story of Girls und Panzer der Film under the guise of creating a promotional video. Though it is not a true recap as it still puts in effort to add something extra. With added commentary and characters sharing their experience in Visual Novel style dialogue box. We wish that the cutscenes could have been animated instead of being still images but we can’t expect much from this type of game.
Apart from the campaign there is Free Match, Multiplayer, Extra Missions and Domination. Domination lets you play as any of the school introduced during the series in short stories. Free Match allows player to set up scenarios and Extra Missions are just some missions with added difficulty.
Annihilation and Flag Battle are the two modes offered via Multiplayer which are the same modes you encounter during the franchise. Flag battle assigns one tank in each team as flag and that tank must be destroyed. Annihilation is the classic team death match. It’s really fun to see the players react based on the match situation and the modes are really enjoyable. But battles are 3v3 which can get stale pretty quickly.
