REVIEW : Helheim Hassle (XBOX Series X)

It is good to see a studio getting to work, developing its own style and contributing good works to a market that, little by little, is becoming saturated with uninspired games. Whether you like Perfectly Paranormal’s work or not, what is certain is that they created something just for them. I remember Zoink, Image and Form or Yacht Club Games, just to name a few. Helheim Hasslefollows the same spirit as Manual Samuel, perfecting the visual environment and the mood of the first game. It is plotted to work with humour. If it is in excess it can saturate or roll your eyes, but in the right measure and at the right times it can make the game a memorable piece, as happened with the classic Monkey Island, which is still quoted today for combining humour with good gameplay.

REVIEW : Helheim Hassle (XBOX Series X)

The main character is called Bjørn, a Viking who prefers peace to do what the Vikings normally do. Oh, and it has a special power: it can separate itself from its members. Legs, arms and head? Everything outside. Then it’s to collect, match and solve puzzles in the most insane ways possible. The puzzles are very intelligent, drawing on our insight and ability to think outside the square, joining parts of the body without any connection between them. A leg and an arm provide good mobility, but if we have to talk, a hat. Helheim Hassle also presents Nordic mythology in a more comical way, with gods, deities and characters, with their hands full of problems that only we can solve.

REVIEW : Helheim Hassle (XBOX Series X)

This game starts well and with a funny premise but like its loose limbs, it ends up stumbling over itself. The sum of all parts of this Helheim leads to a game that is fun, although not very intuitive. It is true that the visual environment can be an acquired taste, but add it to an excellent work of voices, full of humour and references to pop culture, and we have fun guaranteed!

review-helheim-hassle-xbox-series-xOutside the marked history trail, Helheim Hassle makes a far better figure. Here are several fun characters to meet, solid exploration in Metroidvania style and partly varied side quests to puzzle with. It helps to lift the overall impression a little, but not much.
