REVIEW : Immortals Fenyx Rising A New God DLC (XBOX Series X)

A New God is the first DLC for Immortals Fenyx Rising, the first stop in the trio of expansions planned upon release. On this first occasion, we find a direct continuation of the events of the base game, with the arrival of the main character on Mount Olympus. Will he be able to become one of the new gods? First, he will have to convince Zeus and the rest of the deities in a few tests that will keep us entertained for a good handful of hours …

REVIEW : Immortals Fenyx Rising A New God DLC (XBOX Series X)

To be able to access this new content we will have to acquire it individually or through the Season Pass, which guarantees the acquisition of the three DLCs. All players who own Immortals Fenyx Rising will have a free exclusive mission as a Demo of what A New God offers, which they can see on the game map with a distinctive icon as soon as the expansion goes on sale. But is it worth the extra outlay? What news can we find?

Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God is designed for players who have already completed the main story of the base game. We will access from the main menu and we can start directly with a new character and with a level of equipment and skills appropriate to the situation, but we will eat a few spoilers of what happened in the main story. Go calmly and go through the game first, because it will take for granted that you have completed it by exposing the story but also in its combats and puzzles.

A new area to face a multitude of tests

We will arrive at the very Mount Olympus, the place of residence of the gods, where we will chat with Zeus. He wants to put us to the test before offering us a position as a new God, so we have to complete a few missions to obtain new blessings from the four gods. Athena, Aphrodite, Ares and Hephaestus will have their place in this new map that we will access, totally independent of the world where the main game takes place. There we will have to locate these gods and complete all their requests, most of them being puzzle tests like the ones we have already done in our previous adventure.

When we complete all the tests of each God we will obtain a new Blessing in the form of a special ability that will join those that we have already obtained in the main game, adding new and interesting ways to play. The same happens with the new pieces of equipment that add useful functions never seen before and that we must take advantage of to overcome all the challenges. Immortals Fenyx Rising: A new God is designed so that it is impossible to complete all the tests of the same God in a row, needing to alternate between deities to unlock the necessary skills that allow us to advance through their puzzles.

The puzzles of A New God are once again as well designed as those of the main game, although with the added difficulty necessary to have to combine not only all the skills previously learned but also those that we will add to the repertoire. Also, new elements never seen before have been incorporated such as magnets and many other surprises that we invite you to discover for yourself … in this regard, it is appreciated that the expansion works as a continuation of the events of history but also as an added challenge to everything seen in the base game.

Tests that will require our full attention and that will keep us thinking for many hours. There is much more presence of puzzles than fighting, although we will also have to face many enemies at certain times. Everything will depend on the performance of each player, but in approximately 8-10 hours the content incorporated in A New God can be completed. Note that there is also the possibility of spending more time finding the collectables scattered around the new mapping and trying to find the resources necessary to fully upgrade the new pieces of equipment. What we will not be able to use are the potions, which the gods consider as traps, adding another little additional challenge.

A smaller and more controllable world

What Immortals Fenyx Rising brings: A New God is a smaller game space than the main adventure, but one that is much more controllable and enjoyable. In the great mapping, you could get lost among the amount of content available, but here everything is much more chewed to get to the point or to get lost exploring in a few moments. It works, and it is appreciated that we have chosen to move to another space instead of reusing the already known scenarios.

We again find some problems that will be known to us, such as the need to adjust some movements very well in certain tests, which can frustrate more than necessary. Sometimes we will not be able to solve a puzzle after several attempts due to these small imbalances in the control and in the movements that we need to do, beyond having managed to guess what the necessary steps are to complete it.Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New God appeals directly to the player who has completed the main adventure and who has been wanting more because here they will have that extra dose of puzzles. The incorporation of a new mapping is appreciated where all the expansion takes place, smaller and more controllable, where we can unleash all our skills in combination with the new ones. Getting new blessings is satisfying, as the puzzles are still very well designed and pose an interesting challenge. Problems? The same as in the original game, as well as its virtues.
