REVIEW : Knack 2 (PS4/ PS4 Pro)
Well nobody was asking for a Sequel for a launch title which failed to make an impact. But here we are with Knack 2 release with expectations set to very low.
Japan Studio has made the necessary changes to make Knack 2 more appealing. There is lot more variety this time around with jumping and punching still being a main stay. The 10 hour campaign has you going through cities, ruins and forests. Knack gains new power as we go through the story to keep things interesting.
Clearing many sections is still dependent on size of Knack. By gathering relics, you can grow the size. To Shrink size to original size just press R1.
Growing Knack to extreme size and then squashing enemies with bare minimum effort is oddly satisfying. Sadly, the game camera can’t handle this much awesomeness and just portrays the picture at awkward angels.
Knack can combine his body with elemental properties. These abilities are gathered over the course of the game and give the game much needed variety.
The new powers always feel welcomed as the game is well paced and the powers go well with the level design. Each stage requires the same amount of skill, and I never felt myself being forced to think differently about new combat encounters. Most of the encounters feel fairly easy and the puzzles are not that hard.
Boss encounters enhance the difficulty in some sense but still few dodges and well timed hits do the trick. There are some quick time events which take heavy inspiration from God of War and they are a welcome surprise. Knack also pilot tanks and mechs which feel awesome till they last. Wish Japan Studio did more of it.
The cast of Knack 2 is likable but very generic with all of them making a return from Knack 1. Knack makes fun of Knack 1(The game) shortcoming in variety of cut-scenes. Knack 2 narrative is enjoyable but very predictable.
Modes like Coliseum, Time Attack and New Game+ unlock as soon as the credits roll and carry over your progress to keep you busy. The Co-op mode is very well executed and highly enjoyable.
Conclusion:
Knack 2 is enjoyable and tries to cover all the Knack 1 shortcomings. Japan Studio tries to innovate every aspect of Knack but they only last for a short while. Hardcore Gamers Unified recommends Knack 2 as it is a much better game than the original and really enjoyable puzzler. (7/10)
