REVIEW : pixelBOT EXTREME! (PS4)

Pixelbot extreme is a little arcade game kind of like contra or Galaga. The game was recently launched for PS4 and it has been a crazy ride since then. The game is described as a retro side-scrolling shoot them up the game, with a colourful twist along with pixelated graphics, bombastic sound effects, and a soundtrack by LO-FI to give the game a real 80’s feel. In the game, you will be playing as a pixel robot and you have to shoot, dodge, and fly your way through 25 levels while doing so you have to collect orbs and weapons. The game also supports multiplayer where you can team up with your friends and have fun. In simple words, the game is a 2-D side-scrolling shooter. The main catch of the game is the colour-coded enemy targeting, there are in total of 4 colour-coded enemies red, green, blue, and pink and this is what makes this game different.

REVIEW : pixelBOT EXTREME! (PS4)

Coming onto the graphics, soundtracks, and controls. The game has 2-D graphics and they are pretty decent but they are not very fancy and in my opinion, they are okay. The video game industry has advanced so much in graphics as compared to that the graphics of the game are okay. Coming onto the soundtracks the developers have claimed a lot but I don’t think the music is that good it’s very simple and kind of boring. They have tried very well to make music that reminds of the 80’s classic games but seriously they could have done a lot better. So the controls of the game are very easy and nowhere near being difficult to learn. It’s just moving your character up and down using the analogue joysticks on your PS4 controller and use different buttons to shoot different colour rockets for different colour targets it’s that simple.

Now the gameplay, the gameplay of this game can be easily defined as contra or Galaga style where you move up and down and shoot your enemies. You will have to dodge enemy fires, obstacles and shoot the enemies with the same colour rockets to kill them. If you shoot enemies with different colour rockets they will not die for example you are facing a green bot but you shoot red rockets it won’t die. This makes this game a thinking puzzle type game where instead of just shooting at waves of enemies you have to think about shooting the correct colour rockets at same-coloured enemies and you will die if you collide with them. Also, many things in this game can’t be destroyed which makes this game alloy frustrating and unnecessarily stressful. This makes the game tough as you not only have to think what colour rockets you have to shoot but also what I have to dodge and how, so this makes the game quite hard and will keep players on their toes.

REVIEW : pixelBOT EXTREME! (PS4)

The concept of the game is nothing new, we have played these types of games millions of times and it’s nothing new or special, I’m not saying the game isn’t fun it’s fun but it’s nothing that you haven’t seen before. Another drawback of the game is it doesn’t have any story the game just starts right off the bat without explaining anything. Also, the soundtracks of the game are pretty much bad and need a lot of improvement.
