REVIEW : Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales (PC)
Geralt is the hero of Novels and mainline games but there are so many stories to tell in the Witcher universe. Thronebreaker not only expands the universe but also brings in new genre to Witcher series.
Meve, Queen of Lyria and Rivia is the protagonist of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. The games start off with dealing with group of bandits called Strays of Spalla, but there is lot more to come after this.
The art style of Thronebreaker is amazing and quite similar to Witcher 3 recap. The main characters are shown as animated 2D models while rest of the events are narrated which fits well with the art style. The story is engrossing, which starts of slow but soon picks up pace to show an epic adventure. Since all the dialogues are voiced, the voice acting had to be good to compliment the game, safe to say the voice acting is outstanding.
The core gameplay is based on GWENT and plays very well. There are now two lines of cards per side instead of 3 and you get pre-built deck at the start of the game, which is more than enough. There is lot of deck customization as well to prevent the game from getting stale. Plus, the puzzle battle which give pre-built cards are also engaging. The game is played with an isometric top down camera showing Meve and her troops travelling across regions. Interaction with other NPCs still involves choices and every choice has a consequence but the stakes are not as high as effecting the story, just some quests.
The game is a role-playing game and though cant increase the stats of deck but you surely can improve stats of Meve and the army while completing quest to increase movement speed and increase the recruitment limit which helps build a better deck.
Presentation of Thronebreaker is top notch with art filled with astounding details. The overall production values for this game are quite high. The control scheme and menu are easy to navigate. The soundtrack compliments the overall package and is second to none.
