REVIEW : TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS (PC)

And it’s time to talk about the most recently released game that is transformers battlegrounds. The game was released in October 2020 and has a unique targeted audience based on genre. The game is developed by Coatsink and published by Outright Games. The game is not only released for PC but also Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Series S. the franchise of transformers has made a good name in the market but this time they have tried doing something else. Even though the game franchise has the perfect premise to keep the players intrigued and on edge, the series hasn’t always had a great time in the gaming world. People have always been sceptical about transformers game even with a premise that is robots fighting to save the planet.

REVIEW : TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS (PC)

Transformers battleground is far from having any relations with the movies that have been released in a decade. As far as the plot of the game goes it’s classically Megatron has almost got the infamous All Spark and it’s up to you as the new leader of Autobots to prevent Megatron from getting his giant metallic hands on the All Spark. This is a turn-Based strategy game that initially targets Kids as its audience weird and risky move by the developer’s right. This is the first game in the series of Transformers game to be a turn-based strategy. This might be a great way to get younger players to get a hold of the genre by introducing them to the path of logical choice and tactical thinking all standing on the backbone of a colourful familiar world. Players can change the difficulty which makes it quite artificial in making the game more difficult what they should have done was to weave the difficulty into the game itself which would have made even better this isn’t a criticism but a notice for who this game is for. As I said above the game is targeting kids as its primary audience. The game is fairly simple and it takes nearly 10 hours to complete the game in which you can only control the auto bots and nothing else. There are 2 modes in the game arcade and online. In arcade mode, you can choose to play as Decepticons. But I think the online play is much better than arcade as you will be fighting against real players which will challenge your abilities to make tactical decisions. In general, as you play the game you will find out that characters are divided into 3 categories that are brawler, support, and scout. In the arcade when your turn is over the AI moves to make its move which makes the pace of the game quite slow. Two types of missions are split while the first is to reach a certain location or destroy the bog-style Decepticons, once this is done a boss will appear and defeating the boss gives you a really good high.

One of the good things that the game offers is the original voice of the cast which makes the game feels a lot better I was impressed by Starscream’s voice which helped me make a real connection with the game as I have always been a fan of transformers. Adding the visuals of the game to these special audio features makes the game a delight for the franchise fans. The graphics are great and I have to give them credit for how well the game looks. The cell-shaded art style is sweet to the eyes pairing them with sandbox-style maps on both Cybertron and earth is just cherry on top. They have also made some of the environment material to be destructible. Which will force you to think twice about your plans. What’s new is that every AutoBot has a unique ability, skill set, and personality. At any point, your AutoBot has 3 action points to use you can use it to move then attack or simply use a powerful attack the more action points you channel into your attack the more it will be effective. Also, each AutBot has special skills unique to just them. Every character talks, fights, moves like their counterparts in the TV series which adds real depth to the game which in end enhances the basic foundation of the game.

But even with all these new features I still think that this game would do a lot better if it would have been a mobile game. The genre of the game that is tactical would have been perfect for a touchscreen-based interface rather than consoles and keyboards. And this limits the scope of the game and you can easily find an alternative just like this for your mobile.

review-transformers-battlegrounds-pcIt's not that the game is bad but the price at which the game is released is quite high I think. It costs around Rs. 900 and I don't think its worth to spend 900 on this game. The game does serve the purpose of introducing new and young players to this genre. Which game teaches them all that there is to learn about the strategy-based game. But there isn't much that will get the mature fans intrigued in this game. With all this, it's hard to recommend this game
