Dallas Fuel’s Ki-hyo “Xzi” Jung Announces Retirement

Overwatch League player Ki-hyo “Xzi” Jung of the Dallas Fuel is retiring from competitive play. Jung and the Dallas Fuel announced today that the damage player will be returning home to South Korea to receive treatment for a back condition that requires ongoing medical attention.

Jung signed with the Dallas Fuel in the most recent offseason and was anticipated to play a key role in the Dallas Fuel’s revamped lineup for the 2021 Overwatch League season. Since arriving in Dallas in March, the Dallas Fuel had worked with Jung and local doctors to assess options for treatment.

Eyeing a return to competitive play in the future, Jung and the team determined retiring now to focus on physical recovery would allow the best long-term solution for Jung’s career.

“We take the well-being of our players seriously and support Xzi in his decision to return to Korea where he has a familiar support system of family and medical providers,” said Mat Taylor, General Manager of the Dallas Fuel. “While we certainly wish he could have competed with us to start this season, health comes first. We wish Xzi a full recovery and hope he is able to return to competitive gaming stronger and healthier in the future.”

The 2021 Overwatch League season kicks off this Thursday (April 16 at 2 p.m. CST) when the Dallas Fuel host in-state rivals the Houston Outlaws.
