Angela Betasso, Cary Glotzer, Hilton Howell III look to accelerate esports group’s growth

Envy Gaming, Inc., a Texas-based esports and entertainment company, added two directors and filled one empty seat on its board of directors with the recent appointments of Angela Betasso, Cary Glotzer and Hilton Howell III.

“Angela, Cary and Hilton join us at a pivotal moment of growth for Envy,” said Ken Hersh, chairman of the Envy Gaming Board of Directors. “Esports’ popularity continues to skyrocket with no ceiling in sight, and the emergence of gaming and lifestyle streaming as top choices of entertainment among young people open new opportunities for our business every day. We’re excited to add strong leaders to help guide our expansion and diversification as we establish Envy Gaming as one of the leading esports franchise in the world.”

Angela Betasso brings to Envy more than 30 years’ experience in running successful media sales organizations. She previously served as chief revenue officer at media conglomerate Tribune Broadcasting and is currently president and CEO at JDA.media, a media sales and marketing consulting firm. Betasso was recruited to join the board by Envy Gaming owner and chief gaming officer Mike Rufail.

Cary Glotzer has a 25-year track record of developing and producing award-winning broadcast and digital content, live broadcasts and original sports and entertainment programming series with Gray Television, the second-largest owner of TV stations in the U.S. Gray Television recently invested $28.5 million in Envy Gaming’s Series C fundraising round. An Emmy Award-winning producer, Glotzer is the founder and CEO of Gray subsidiary Tupelo Honey, one of the nation’s largest producers of original programming, music content, live sports and branded content.

Hilton Howell III is a media and gaming industry entrepreneur and investor with a finger on the pulse of the latest developments in entertainment and emerging markets. He brings experience in running gaming tournaments and coordinating digital campaigns to reach young audiences.

Envy Gaming includes a network of competitive gamers and esports teams, content creators and streamers with global reach. The organization owns and operates esports teams Dallas Fuel in the Overwatch League, Dallas Empire in the Call of Duty League and the Team Envy franchise competing in popular games including Rocket League, Valorant, Halo, Super Smash Bros. and Magic: The Gathering.

Envy is also a leader in producing live esports events. The organization hosted the first esports home matches in a stadium at the two-day, 4,000-plus sellout crowd of Dallas Fuel Homestand Weekend in April 2019. Recently, Envy hosted the first live event for the Call of Duty League in more than 12 months with the Stage 4 Major at Esports Stadium Arlington, signifying a return to in-person competition after much of the esports world went online in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Envy’s Dallas Fuel team will also host the first live event for the Overwatch League in North America at an upcoming match on July 9.
