Fear the Wolves Update Brings Fresh Content, Gameplay Tweaks, and Performance Optimization
Today, Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games are deploying a new update for their Battle Royale FPS, Fear the Wolves, now available on Steam Early Access. Fear the Wolves drops players, in squads or as lone wolves, into the oppressive environment of a radiation-ravaged Chernobyl. A classic Battle Royale mode forces them to fight to be the last man standing.
From the launch of the Early Access, Vostok Games has been looking at feedback from the community which has allowed the team to roll out multiple updates and improvements – but that was only a start, as the dev team continues to improve their game on a regular basis during the Early Access period. Today’s update is dedicated to performance optimization – many players should see a significant improvement during their gameplay sessions while Vostock continues working hard to make sure Fear the Wolves runs smoothly and achieves performance on all configs as the Early Access develops.
Maps have also received careful attention with more landmarks and topography tweaks, not only strengthening the immersion into the dark Chernobyl atmosphere but also bringing more intense challenges during the entire gameplay session. With greater overall balancing (loot distribution, weapons, etc.), matches have now been optimized to start with fewer players to reduce lobby wait times.
More additions like the inclusion of additional language support, queuing for a new game while being in spectator mode, improved visuals, and more content will complete this latest update. The full list and details about this update are available here.

Fear the Wolves is a competitive Battle Royale FPS by Vostok Games, bringing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. DNA to the brutal 100-player arena. The game drops players, in squads or as lone wolves, into the oppressive environments of a radiation-ravaged Chernobyl, spread across a 25km2 map and forced to fight to be the last one standing. To secure the top spot, players will need to worry about more than just other survivors. Across the hostile wastes, everyone is threatened by deadly anomalies and the dynamically-changing weather – voted for by players and spectators, both in-game and on streaming platforms. As time wares on and day turns to dusk, survivors must stay on their toes and constantly adapt to new situations.
Protective gear allows players to explore dangerous off-limit radioactive zones inaccessible to less-equipped opponents – but filled with powerful loot. Wolves and much worse lay in wait for foolish players who don’t keep their wits about them.
Further breaking the mold of the genre, every game is made truly unique by the irregular and unpredictable spread of deadly radiation, which organically closes in on players with different stages of toxicity, all of which can be battled and avoided in different ways.
Finally, every match ends with a dramatic race to the extraction helicopter, with only one survivor able to make it out. Will you pick off stragglers from a rooftop or make a mad dash for freedom? Each extraction is unique, with the final area layout and your skills deciding the winner.
