From the makers of Xeno Crisis and Battle Axe, Bitmap Bureau breathes new life into the beat ’em up genre.

Developed by Bitmap Bureau, Final Vendetta is releasing on Friday 17 June. With just under a month to go, publisher Numskull Games presents a brand-new gameplay preview video that focuses on the gameplay modes and mechanics, character move sets, as well as different London-based levels.

Movement & Special Moves

Final Vendetta plays like a classic beat ’em up from the arcade. Timing attacks, techniques and super moves is key, whilst also avoiding the overwhelming onslaught of enemies by double tapping up or down to duck or dodge. More unique to beat ’em ups is the ability to block, although not all attacks can be blocked. Each character has a number of basic strikes, grab variations, moves and techniques, including the ability to strike from behind if an enemy is sneaking up. Kick enemies whilst they’re down, juggle them with attacks to build up a combo count, or time a super attack – but if the meter isn’t full, expect to lose health.

Characters

Claire Sparks, Duke Sancho, and Miller T. Williams are shown off in all their glory. A bare-knuckle fighter from the streets of London, Sancho is fast, nimble and great at building up combos with a move set spanning rapid fire punches, close range elbows and uppercuts, not to mention well-placed footwork and a bicycle kick that launches foes into the air. He also has a unique ability to wall kick from the edge of the screen and, if in trouble, his hurricane kick gets mobs off in a pinch.

Born and bred in Essex, Claire Sparks has a martial arts background and uses elbow strikes, palm thrusts, flying knee strikes, devastating axe kicks, and two different throw variants. Her flash kick is a full 360 roundhouse that knocks back groups of enemies. Finally, Williams not only has a mean right hand, but the former pro-wrestler also uses dropkicks, spinebreakers, clotheslines, suplexes and long-distance throws, as well as a special axe handle move that prevents anyone from getting close. Rounding out the package is an impressive Elbow drop that would make wrestling legends of old, truly proud!

Game Modes

In Arcade players must fight through six different locales including The Streets, Underground, Docks, Club Tigre, and more, as players try to take down gang leaders to find Juliette. Battle through a number of different enemies and learn the move sets of each stage’s dangerous hazards and eccentric bosses. Additional lives are hidden outside of plain sight, with one tucked away per level. Weapons are a very powerful resource and can be thrown to maximise damage, but if knocked down any in possession will be gone for good. Smashing open the likes of barrels or phone booths may also release important street food and treasures.

There is also a Boss Rush mode where players can face off with each boss from the game back-to-back, as well as a Survival mode where contenders can take on an onrush of endless enemies. All of these modes can be played with a second player in co-op which is really where the fun begins. After all this collaboration there’s even the option to put each other’s skills to the test and battle each other in Versus mode.

Releasing on Friday 17 June, the hotly tipped side-scrolling beat ’em up will be available digitally on PC (Steam), Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 & 5 for £22.49 / $24.95.
