Gameloft Announces the Upcoming Release of Modern Combat Versus

Gameloft, leader in the development and publishing of mobile games, announces the upcoming arrival of its next hit, Modern Combat Versus. The benchmark for smartphone and tablet FPSs-which in its previous title, Modern Combat 5: Blackout, surpassed 100 million downloads-is back with a new multiplayer-experience available soon on the App Store, Google Play and the Windows Store.

Thanks to its use of technologies traditionally reserved for the development of console games, Modern Combat Versus will bring with it Gameloft’s signature touch and a unique visual experience that is familiar to console FPS players, but which has yet to be offered on mobile devices.

Modern Combat Versus is one of the first mobile games to make use of PBR (physically based rendering) technology, which realistically reproduces materials’ responses to light sources and to reflections. When combined with IBL (image-based lighting) and HDR (high dynamic range) technologies, this process offers true-to-life visuals, including a play of light and shadow never before achieved in mobile video games.

Featuring five stunning multiplayer maps at launch, triangle count of each environment can be as high as 1 million, which is equivalent to the count in FPS games on PS3 or Xbox 360, and Gameloft’s unique know-how in terms of mobile optimization allows for rendering comparable to that seen on current-gen consoles. The maps’ background panoramas are made up of images that were also rendered based on 3D models. These scenes are made up of billions of triangles. The characters are also the products of a rigorous creation process, identical to the one used on current AAA console games. They are then integrated into the game in a nearly seamless manner thanks to the advanced shading model and physical lighting integrated in Gameloft’s proprietary engine.

“More than 80 people, including creative talent that has worked on Mass Effectand console games for Ubisoft and WB Games, worked together for two years on Modern Combat Versus. With our biggest production to date, we are demonstrating that Gameloft is at the cutting edge of mobile technology and is able to offer players visual experiences that are identical to those available on console games, all while delivering accessible controls that are sure to win over a new larger audience,” declared Alexandre Pelletier-Normand, Senior Vice President Production at Gameloft.

Modern Combat Versus is currently in soft launch and will be available really soon on the App Store, Google Play, Windows Store and Amazon.
