  • More than 20,000 amateur gamers registered for the tournament

Ahmedabad-based e-gaming startup Gamerji has concluded its first ever Community Challenge. The gaming tournament which was launched on 23rd Jan, saw registration of over 20,000 amateur gamers playing some of the most popular titles — Free Fire, Call of Duty Mobile, Valorant, Clash Royale, FIFA, WCC Rivals.

Esports or Competitive Video Gaming has always had tournaments that target the professionals. However, the major point being missed here is the number of amateur gamers who play the same games daily for hours but don’t get the right platform to make a mark and elevate in the Esports world. This is where Gamerji has launched its platform and is targeting more than 17 million Esports gamers in India. With over a million gamers now, Gamerji launched in 2019 to cater the Amateur Gaming audience.

The Community Challenge saw a viewership of 1.3 million and more than 7 million in influencer reach. Gamerji registered a 17% surge in their DAU.

Soham Thacker, Founder, Gamerji, says, “Esports is for all, not just professional gamers. Like conventional sports, where there are minor leagues which eventually lead to an athlete playing professionally, Esports too requires a proper path for aspiring gamers to make a mark in the industry. Gamerji aims to cater to these amateur gamers by giving them a platform to participate in tournaments hosted daily and improve their stats.”

The Company recently raised seed funding from Unicorn India Ventures. The funds raised will be used for upgrading the tech and user acquisition.

Bhaskar Majumdar, Managing Partner, Unicorn India Ventures, says, “The amateur gaming segment is largely untapped because e-gaming in itself is at a nascent stage. Due to the Pandemic, as people continue to spend more time indoors, gaming startups should acknowledge that there is a huge untapped market beyond the Pros. We believe Gamerji’s efforts are in the right direction as they are providing a serious platform to potential Pro gamers.”

The Gamerji Community Challenge will be a recurring event and will be organised every 45 days.
