Gaming trends in West India: A viable career option and a source of mental wellbeing

PC emerges as the preferred gaming device; 37% mobile gamers want to switch to PC for gaming

Over the past few years, online gaming has witnessed an exponential growth. While this trend has been prevalent in India, PC gaming has emerged as one of the fastest growing segments. The HP India Gaming Landscape Report 2021 highlights the Indian gaming community’s growing preference for PC gaming with 88% of gamers voting for PCs as their preferred device for gaming. Hinting towards a massive growth opportunity for PC gaming in India, 37% of the surveyed mobile gamers confirmed the migration to PCs for gaming.

As per the HP study, Gaming is no longer considered as just a fun activity. In fact, gamers are very strongly eyeing gaming as a viable career option, besides relieving stress, socializing and enhancing skills. This is evident in West Indian cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Nagpur.

Gaming as a Career Option

In West India, 88% of gamers expressed a desire to pursue gaming as a career. Interestingly, more women gamers (91%) in West India are inclined towards gaming as a profession than men (87%).

Gamers in Nagpur (96%) followed by Mumbai (95%) have displayed a higher interest for gaming as a career option.

Gaming represents a significant growth opportunity for the Indian PC industry and continues to be a key driver of HP’s continued development in the PC category.”

Gaming as a source of mental wellbeing and Socializing:

Women have been at the forefront of this perception shift around gaming, and describe gaming to relieve stress, enhance cognitive skills, and promote mental wellbeing. According to the HP study, 96% of female respondents in West India agreed that gaming helps them reduce stress and induce positive feelings. Additionally, 94% of female respondents believe that gaming is the best source of relaxation.

Gaming in West India is strongly viewed as a tool to socialize and build new connections. 91% of all respondents believe gaming helps in socializing – a trend dominated by women (92%) in West India.

Gamers from cities like Nagpur (98%) and Mumbai (93%) consider gaming as a socializing tool.

Consumer trends in gaming PC purchases:

According to the HP survey, 70% of gamers in West India are willing to spend between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 1 lakh on a gaming PC. Interestingly, only 19% gamers in Mumbai are open to spend over 1 lakh on a gaming PC.

Gamers from Pune (47%) and Nagpur (33%) are more willing to spend 100K + on gaming PCs.

The HP India Gaming Landscape Report 2021 has identified PC gaming as a widespread activity in West India and highlights the relevance of a PC in society, notably during the ongoing pandemic. It is not only a popular tool for extending networks and reducing stress, but also provides a viable professional opportunity.
