Jurassic World Evolution is a business simulation game that allows the player to construct a Jurassic World dinosaur theme park with attractions and research facilities. The game is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, previously featured in the films Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, as well as the surrounding islands of the fictional Las Cinco Muertes Archipelago. The player’s ultimate goal is to develop a five-star parks across all of the regions, which gradually unlock as players earn park ratings. The game features more than 30 dinosaurs at launch. Jeff Goldblum serves as the game’s narrator, and players will meet other key figures representing three branches of the park’s development: entertainment, security and science. Each of these characters will push their agenda at the players, trying to convince players to develop the park in accordance to their advice.

Essential buildings and facilities featured in the game include the Expedition center, which sends archaeologists to fossil dig sites so as to obtain dinosaurs DNA content. DNA sequencing unlocks new dinosaurs and updates their statistics, such as lifespan. With sufficient DNA content, players can use the Hammond Research Center to breed, improve the gene, and evolve the dinosaurs Players need to build enclosures to contain dinosaurs for visitors’ viewing. Different dinosaurs have different needs, such as the type of food they eat and the extent of their social interactions they required, which must be met to keep them healthy and satisfied. Dinosaurs, controlled by artificial intelligence, will interact with each other and with the environment. For instance, they will attack a competing species when they met with each other, and destroy the fences. Players also need to construct various entertainment rides, each with their own management system, as well as restaurants and shops to please the guests and earn money. An example of tourist attraction is the Gyrosphere from Jurassic World. Players can also use the game’s photo mode to take pictures of dinosaurs, which also help the park to earn money and publicity.

There are various emergency situations that may happen in the park, ranging from power failures, unpredictable weather, to dinosaurs breakouts, which must be addressed by players in order to ensure guests’ safety and happiness. Players can build a Ranger Station, which is responsible for maintaining the park’s security, and controls its helicopter and ground vehicles, as well as the enclosure maintenance staff from a first-person perspective. Emergency shelters which protect the guests, as well as other security structures like power network redundancies and storm warning centers, can be built. Many of these security facilities can be upgraded to strengthen their efficiency when dealing with emergencies
