MIRAMAX Appoints Entertainment Veteran Bill Block As Chief Executive Officer

MIRAMAX® announced today that they have named entertainment veteran Bill Block as Chief Executive Officer.  A renowned producer of studio level commercial independent feature films, Block most recently served as Founder/CEO of production company QED.  Prior to that, Block was the President of Artisan Entertainment.

MIRAMAX® was founded in 1979 by Bob and Harvey Weinstein and sold to the Walt Disney Company in 1993. The company’s assets were acquired from Disney in 2010.  MIRAMAX® was sold by its private equity owners in March 2016 to beIN Media Group, which now owns 100% of the company.

MIRAMAX® has a library consisting of over 700 titles from the late 1980s to the present. Its recently announced productions include the Johnny Depp-Forest Whitaker police drama “Labyrinth,” which MIRAMAX® will co-finance with Open Road Films. It also acquired U.S. distribution rights to the Tonya Harding biopic “I, Tonya,” starring Margot Robbie.

Block’s recent production titles include the worldwide box office hit Bad Moms, produced for STX and starring Mila Kunis and Christina Applegate. The film grossed close to $200 million dollars worldwide.  Block also produced Dirty Grandpa starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron released in 2016 by Lionsgate Entertainment. Block is a producer on the upcoming Sam Raimi project with Warner Bros. and serves as an Executive producer on STX’s upcoming Bad Mom’s Christmas.
