Meet Critically-Acclaimed Brazilian Studio ARVORE and Check-Out Nostalgia-Fueled Virtual Reality Game-Within-A-Game Pixel Ripped 1995

Today, we are thrilled to introduce you to Brazil-based video game development studio ARVORE and their latest game, Pixel Ripped 1995. A successor to the award-winning Pixel Ripped 1989 and described by Eurogamer as “…a loving tribute to a long-lost era of video gaming,” Pixel Ripped 1995 launches tomorrow for PlayStation VR in North America, with a European launch to follow on May 19th.

ARVORE is another critically-acclaimed example of the great things happening in Brazil’s thriving games industry and a prominent member of Brazil Games — an export program created by the Brazilian Game Companies Association, ABRAGAMES, in partnership with Apex-Brasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency.

Pixel Ripped 1995 released on Steam, Oculus Rift, and Quest stores in April and the game currently sits with an average score of 82% on Metacritic and an average user rating of 96%, with comments from press and players agreeing that the title improves on the first one in all aspects. Its prequel, Pixel Ripped 1989, has won numerous awards, including Most Innovative Game at Brazil’s International Game (BIG) Festival 2019, the New Face Award, earned at the 22nd Edition of the Japan Media Arts Festival, and was selected to be part of the Best VR Games Showcase at SIGGRAPH 2019.

A unique “game-within-a-game”, Pixel Ripped 1995 immerses players in the nostalgia of classic gaming as they assume the role of 9-year-old gaming fan David. Recruited as the best gamer of the year by video game protagonist Dot, David becomes immersed in the world of video games — literally! He must face challenges across sentimental genres of ’90s video games such as brawlers, role-playing games, platformers, and more, in between real-world battles against parents enforcing the dreaded “bedtime”, video game rental store console wars, and arcade bullies.

Pixel Ripped 1995 will be available tomorrow on the PlayStation Store in North America and on May 19th in Europe for $19.99 USD.

Comprised of an innovative multidisciplinary team, ARVORE combines passion and experience to create critically-acclaimed virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality video games that offer players profoundly immersive and interactive narrative experiences. Aside from the Pixel Ripped series, the studio has produced many award-winning hits, including Venice Film Festival “Best VR Experience Winner”, The Line. With a vast and talented team of established visual artists, designers, and writers who have previously worked in film, television, and comics — as well as game designers, developers, and technologists — this Brazilian studio blends art with the latest technology to explore the boundaries of immersive storytelling.

Brazil Games has worked tirelessly for the past decade to support thriving Brazilian game studios internationally — funding their attendance at international video game events and connecting them with partnerships and financial backing opportunities. As the 13th largest gaming maker in the world, Brazil’s local industry has a current growth rate of 13.5% annually and accounts for $1.6 billion USD of the world’s video game-related revenue. Through their work with their affiliate studios, Brazil Games is an integral part of their success.
