Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four is a procedurally generated collectable card game with action RPG elements. Players take on the role of a dark wizard who has tinkered with magic and spells beyond his ability accidentally unleashing The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and their minions upon the world. Armed with over 200 cards and 40 artefacts, the player will battle these hellish enemies in a bid to send them back to the firey pit from whence they came!

REVIEW : Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four (PC)

You play around with dark magic and the apocalyptic riders and their dark henchmen are let loose on the game world. Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four mixes trading cards with RPG elements and roguelike.

We gain experience & cards

Once in the game, we take control of our clumsy magician and experience our first battles. We are taught the system very casually and we earn our first trading cards. A total of over 200 cards from five different factions are on offer.

There are also over 40 pieces of equipment that we can put on our magician. In the ideal case, we look for set items here and combine the different bonuses with our cards. As in a classic RPG, there are armour items as well as a slot for a ring and our magical staff.

A tavern as a starting point

In between our trips, we keep visiting our local pub in Cardaclysm. The worthy barman keeps supplying us with orders, on our trips into the surrounding area we have to find a special item that is hidden somewhere in the level.

Combination brings power

In every level of Cardaclysm, our goal is to kill all opponents and to reach the exit. The reward for the effort is new trading cards, often a larger supply of magic crystals and now and then new loot. If all opponents have crossed the virtual Jordan, a gigantic and above all strong opponent is activated.

Now it’s time to take your legs in hand and reach the exit in time. We should only face him after a few hours of play, at the beginning we have no chance. If we die virtual, we have to start the level over. The individual levels are put together at random, which ensures variety.

Many cards can also be combined. For instance, if we find a Gnoll shooter at map level 1, this can be upgraded with a second card, at character level 2 we now get a “Gnoll Marauder”. But with many cards, this is still not the end. If we combine two-level 2 cards, we get the ultimate expansion of our unit.

The general direction is “when it’s done”, but the developer expects a full release of Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four this fall. As usual, the price will be slightly higher for the full release.

More enemies, more maps, more NPCs and different orders should be integrated. The base is up to date and the game is playable and bug-free, but more variety is very welcome.

Player feedback is also expressly desired, whether in the Steam forum or on the official Discord channel.
