REVIEW : Chenso Club (PC)

The alien invaders have taken over the world and are assaulting everything and everyone! When they die, the life force they leave behind is an extremely powerful energy source! Is there still hope?

Meet the Chenso Club, a rising band of combatants on a mission to preserve the world. They’re using the aliens’ life force to gain strength and defeat them in their own game. Don’t be fooled by their cuteness; they will cheerfully and mercilessly annihilate any threat that gets in their way.

Our heroines are looking for any reason to exercise their newly discovered abilities. It is up to you to master their moves, expand their power, and demonstrate the Chenso Club’s might to the world.

Master the girls’ techniques, rev up your reflexes and battle your way through randomised stages to eliminate aliens.

Play solo or couch co-op to satisfy the Chenso girls’ competitive spirit.

I don’t believe there is a rogue-like sort of game with greater appeal than Chenso Club currently possesses. This is set to be released in the spring of this year, and it looks like a lot of fun to play alone or with a friend. I have a strong suspicion that this game will become a cult classic. It has a very weird and hilarious look to it that I am sure will appeal to a wide range of players.

Aliens Attack

The entire premise and story of Chenso Club are that aliens have invaded and are attempting to take over the world. Thankfully, we have the Chenso Club, a squad of strong gals who are not going to allow these aliens to take over the earth. They will use their fists, chainsaws, bats, and other awesome weaponry to save the day.

Welcome To The Club

As I write this, we know for certain that there will be three members of the Chenso Club, but based on what the developer has mentioned on Steam, I have a strange hunch that there may be more added by the time the game is launched. Blue is an android who is powerful due to alien technology and carries a fantastic chainsaw. Red is a member of the royal guard, and it is her responsibility to defend the king. Because the king has been kidnapped, she must rely on her skills and a huge ass hammer to save the day. Plum is a mage who studies witchcraft and will fight her way through the game using magic.

Never The Same

Chenso Club is said to as a roguelike since the levels are generated at random and when you die, you die! The game is difficult, but because of the smooth controls, this side-scrolling form of action feels wonderful and dying never feels unfair. You have a decent assortment of attacks to choose from, but when you defeat an enemy, you can take their life power and use it to improve your abilities by trading it for cool new items. There is also a co-op mode where you may compete to determine who is the best.

review-chenso-club-pcThe entire game has a very cool style to it. Chenso Club has a lot of personality despite its pixel art appearance. I like how the characters are attractive, but they can hack and slash foes into a million pieces, with blood and fragments flying everywhere. The level design is filled with small nuances, and the entire game is a visual delight. I enjoy the game's unique soundtrack, which complements the game's wacky action nicely.
