Excubitor is part of both tower defense and shoot em up genres, Excubitor is a like Bullet Hell Tower Defense Shooter. The game is plenty of fun when you get a new weapon to play with or a new enemy spawns. But the gameplay is quite repetitive and similar: nothing really stands out in the end but it is still fun.

Difficulty and variety changes from level to level which will keep you interested and the choice of setting a turret or a generator keeps you thinking.  When a level changes drastically from previous level; things get really interesting, it can be pretty fun, as you’re dashing around, trying to manage things to protect the big ship. It does have an addictive quality to it.

A good collection of weapons, 17 in total. Upgrades do make a reasonable difference, like FireRate can be increased along with the ability to stun enemies. Strafing adds another dimension to motion and we really like it.

Controls do take some time to get used to but after the initial learning curve they are easy to master. Visuals are sharp and brilliant to look at but there are some assets which look similar to background and hence get lost in them.

The game also consist of a New Game+ mode which offers the hardest difficulty in game, so you got to utilize the environment to stay a step ahead of your enemies. New Game+ and the ability to tackle a level in different ways brings replay-ability to the game.

All the drawbacks of turrets can be overcome by upgrading them and to upgrade the turrets you need to install the generators, this brings in the management aspect of the game. Normal difficulty is pretty easy , so we recommend veterans of Tower defense or shot em up genre to play on hard difficulty.
