REVIEW : FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION (PC/ Steam)
Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition is exceptional conversion of Square Enix’s JRPG which launched on PS4 and XBOX one a year back.
Final Fantasy 15 is a story of protagonist Noctis Lucis Caelum as he travels through war torn planet of Eos along with his friend. The game is story driven, set in an open world.
Gladiolus Amicitia, Promto Argentum and Ignis Scientia make up your party of friends. The Gameplay is similar to most RPG’s nowadays, large open world filled with quests and scenic beauty to accompany you in your travels.
Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition is the exact same game as on consoles just with new coat of paint for PC Version.
The PC version of the game also includes all the DLCs released till now, so that’s a great bonus. Plus, there is also first-person mode, few side quests and co-op multiplayer, which is pretty awesome. Apart from this content wise, the game is same. But what makes this version the best version in the market is the graphics options and higher framerates.
PC Version features higher quality assets, 4K textures plus the option to scale the graphics the way you want and the way which performs best on your system. The game features default presets: Low, Middle, High and Highest, which you can further customize based on your liking. The graphic options are most extensive in recent PC games. The middle settings were similar to Console settings but High and Highest are just a cut above.
You will also find in the settings, Nvidia Hairworks, Voxel Ambient Occlusion, Shadowlibs and Turfeffects to increase the eye candy. Hairworks just as the name sounds makes hairs look more realistic. VXAO helps represent lights more realistically on objects. Turfeffects helps create more bushes and grasses which look realistic with interactive physics. Shadowlibs creates more realistic soft shadows. All these extra settings are taxing on the resources but game looks best with these switched on.
Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition support max 120 FPS and the difference with this high frame rate enabled is immediately noticeable. Consoles experience would feel underwhelming after playing Final Fantasy 15 at high framerate. The control feels more responsive due to low input lag at high frame rates.
We tested the game at 2560×1080 resolution with mixture of Highest and high settings with a GTX 970. We got an average of 50 FPS.
Final Fantasy 15 can take lost of space on your system. The Base game is at 85 GB and with 4K texture pack, the game adds another 65 GB.
The Game’s Keyboard and mouse control scheme is the only bad point. You can’t even display mouse cursor in game menus. This makes scrolling through the menu tedious. Even using the map feels unintuitive as the game forces you to scroll through entire map instead of using mouse. The Keyboard and Mouse implementation seems to be a afterthought.
