REVIEW : From Space (PC)

There aren’t many opponents in video games that are more well-known than aliens. Bad villains from distant planets have consistently made an appearance in our games, from the arcade threat of Space Invaders to Half-Life and everything in between. It will take all of your twin stick prowess to send them packing because From Space has brought a pinky-purple horror down from the clouds.

You (and possibly up to three pals) must defend the planet from the alien threat as one of six classes. This entails acquiring weapons, power-ups, and orbs to bolster your strength and achieve goals while fending against escalating waves of extraterrestrials.

REVIEW : From Space (PC)

Although it isn’t the most original setting for a video game, it serves its purpose and gets you ready for some arcade action.

With the standard twin-stick arrangement of moving with the left stick and aiming with the right, controlling your small soldier is simple. You also have the rush to escape danger (which, though, doesn’t give you a moment of invincibility) and a tonne of items to aid in fending off the hordes of opponents.

REVIEW : From Space (PC)

Both grenades and gadgets are included in this list. The grenades function as you would anticipate and come in a variety of exploding, burning, and sticky varieties for usage in various scenarios. The technology is more interesting, with features like machine gun turrets, electric fences, and barbed wire to slow and injure invading invaders. I only wish my inventory allowed me to carry more of them because making use of these items is crucial when dealing with a challenging horde or nest.

No matter how many grenades you have on hand, a good rifle is a need for survival. In From Space, you can choose from a nice array of weapons, including shotguns, flamethrowers, and even a lightning gun.

However, not all of these weapons are created equal, and some would unquestionably be more advantageous when used with allies. If you had a friend or two to help you finish them off after slowing down enemies with electrical blasts from the lightning gun, that would be great, but in solo play, all you get is a huge horde of angry aliens waiting for you to reload.

The majority of your equipment for killing aliens is scattered throughout From Space’s streets and buildings, but some of it is class-specific. The Goalkeeper is armed with a huge old minigun and a shield, while my favourite, the Flame Trooper, has all sorts of fire-based weapons to set the alien scourge ablaze. The Shadow Sniper is armed with (you guessed it) a sniper rifle and a claymore.

Though you won’t immediately have access to all of these weapons, you’ll need to level up to obtain them. You will receive a variety of helpful bonuses with each level you reach, such as access to new weapon perks slots or even a better dodge. Because all the classes share the experience, you don’t have to worry about slaving away as each of them, making levelling up consistently satisfying.

When battling the hordes of aliens, you’ll need all the bonuses you can acquire. Many pinky-purple monsters must be defeated, however with various degrees of success. A lot of the other enemies are less exciting to fight than the standard grunts running at you and the huge brutes holding a shield. The frogs in particular are annoying because their jumping assault appears out of nowhere no matter how hard you try to avoid it.

Additionally, if some of the foes aren’t annoying enough, some of the tasks you must complete will undoubtedly drive you insane.

Space’s requirement that you accompany NPCs through swarms of aliens baffles me, yet having to watch them perish as I dealt with my own issues started to happen very frequently.

review-from-space-pcWhile From Space is a perfectly good twin-stick shooter, it lacks excitement. You'll probably have fun if you need a game to play with your friends and enjoy trying out new classes, but you'll have to put up with some obnoxious monsters and tasks to do so.
