REVIEW : GINTAMA RUMBLE (PS4/ PS4 Pro)

Gintama Rumble on PlayStation 4 is very much like a Dynasty Warriors Games. The Gameplay and even the control scheme is very similar to a Dynasty Warriors game.

Gintama Rumble revolves around three protagonists from the anime: Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura. They run some odd jobs and get caught up in some shenanigans in alternate reality Japan and are attacked by extraterrestrials.

Game does a good job of explaining all the characters so you don’t need to watch the anime to play this game.

The game starts with Amato War and continues with Benizakura arc later on. There are 10 arcs with some side stories so there is not much content to go through.

The Game is similar to Warriors game but the stages are still very small and plus they are reused throughout the game per arc and since game is divided into arcs so you would be stuck playing same areas over and over again. The stages reappear in free battle and the battles are not as free flowing as Warriors game.

Higher levels help you unlock skills as well as level up your character.

You get Silver Orbs for beating captains which provide passive and active effects. The effects can range from healing to temporarily calling in backup. The Orbs provide a sense of strategy as not a lot is present in the game.

Just Like the warriors’ series you beat down numerous same looking characters and a captain protecting that area to win over that area. There are other objectives as well like escort missions, but mostly you would be destroying hundreds of characters.

While the gameplay lacks depth the game more than makes up for it in presentation department with stylish combos are amazing finishers. The special moves and finishers are over the top and feature amazing cut scenes to provide you a wow moment.

REVIEW : GINTAMA RUMBLE (PS4/ PS4 Pro)

The boss fights in Gintama Rumble are quite difficult and require extra concentration to beat them. Compared to laid back approach of rest of the fights, it is odd that boss fights are so difficult.

High number of enemies on the screen do tank the frame rate and game feels choppy at best. Wish the developer put in more time optimizing the game as current generation hardware can easily handle this game.

Some cut scenes in the game are just static images with text over them and this is a stark contrast compared to all the special move cut scenes. Other than that, the sound track and voice acting is on par and is nothing to write home about.
