REVIEW : Godbeast Mk.II (PC)

In the stunning cel-shaded action game Godbeast Mk.II, the exiled princess Ysengrimes and her Wolf engage in a violent battle for vengeance.

Claim the throne by cutting a route through the City of Insomnia. Kill the divine beasts that serve as their protectors and sources of strength, the Council of the Hunt, and the Godbeasts. This ruling class has made a sinister contract with death and rebirth in an endless night of darkness in exchange for perpetual life. The people of the city are driven insane by a craving for slaughter by the Moon’s malignant brightness.

KEY FEATURES

  • Fast-paced fighting with a unique combination system lets you take down opponents in timed battles before tearing them to pieces in a pool of blood.
  • To cut through armies of insane monsters, send your Wolf into battle. Gain control over the Godbeasts and ascend to the position of Queen of the City.
  • Fight ferocious battles against the Council of the Hunt, your erstwhile allies, and your relatives. Give no quarter and spare no one.
  • As you run and drive through the pitch-black forests and moonlit highways, stunning cel-shaded images, colourful particles, and fashionable effects will surround you.

The Godbeast is not necessary to have played in order to appreciate this game.

The video game Godbeast Mk.II is quite intriguing. It’s not well-polished; for example, the inflexible camera can interfere with gameplay when obstacles like adversaries or set pieces obstruct the player’s view, the UI navigation is clumsy, and there is no method to remap buttons, which makes using a controller for me practically impossible.

REVIEW : Godbeast Mk.II (PC)

Having said that, if you enjoy sleek games and intense fighting, this has a lot of pretty fascinating features and is well worth a try.

The round-based combat system promotes clean, aggressive play. As you stun enemies one at a time, trying to eliminate them all before the first one awakens, there is a building sense of tension, followed by a jolt of relief when the camera cuts to them one at a time and they explode into health and energy pickups.

REVIEW : Godbeast Mk.II (PC)

For an independent game, the game offers a surprisingly large number of bosses and a wide range of enemies. There are at least four minibosses and at least four big bosses, although I haven’t finished it yet.

The confrontations against the main bosses may get really challenging; I got trapped for a while at the Bishop, whose summon attacks and teleporting caused me a lot of trouble.

review-godbeast-mk-ii-pcAlthough I don't think this game is for everyone, it has enough fascinating features that I believe it merits far more attention than it is currently receiving. Try it out; you might enjoy it!
