REVIEW : Mulaka (PS4)

Mulaka is a third person action game from Lienzo. The game tells a story of member or Tarhumara people of Mexico. The story is interesting with fables and stories of Native American People.

You help the people around the land with their requests and take the help of gods to prevent world destruction. The game’s lore makes the straightforward story far more interesting.

The visual are simplistic but stylist in nature. Apart from the visuals Mulaka falls short on combat and exploration part. Combat involves light, heavy, dodge, throw spear and finishing move with different types on enemies to keep you on your toes. Some enemies have weak points and you need to time your attacks to hit them and some enemies can be dealt with at long range. But there is no feedback to any of the attacks, it just feels bland. All the attacks feel floaty and soft.

The attacks also lack precision while you are hitting your enemies or your enemies are hitting you. None of the attacks feel satisfying at all.

The platforming also lacks precision, every jump feels floaty in platforming section.

Wish the game could have had interesting environment, greater variety in interactions, better combat or tighter controls. That would have excelled the game into the good category.

You can acquire skills and new creations via which you can backtrack to previous hubs and unlock new locations. The puzzles and level design are too basic to keep things interesting. All this makes backtracking feel like a chore.

review-mulaka-ps4Mulaka has a great story to tell but it fails to tell it due to its failing mechanics. The combat is weak, environments lack variety and controls could have been better, Mulaka just leaves you wanting. Hardcore Gamers Unified recommends Mulaka for its unique story.
