REVIEW : Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 (PS4/ PS4 Pro)

Last Year PES 2017 brought PES back to the forefront of football games with fans calling it a return to form. PES 2018 improves on this but in baby steps rather than giant strides. The football gameplay is fine its just the overall presentation that needs fixing.

PES gameplay is still beautiful as ever. The fluid passes and intense matches are still thrilling and fun to play, this is still the best part about PES 2018.

PES excels in those little things that happen during matches that make you happy. The ease at which star players dribble the ball or skills they show on field is exceptionally accurate. It’s these little things during matches that make you smile and appreciate the vast amount of player animations. This can be a problem for PES too as the world class players are just class apart from normal players and the feel of balanced gameplay is lost.

There are times when a attack would break down just because you cannot pass to star player or at times an impossible development would result in a goal.

There is a new physicality system and it is hit or a miss at times. Combine that with the simple controls of PES and you will be left wanting for more control over the ball. The way physicality system works is when two opposition players running together for the ball they will start fighting for ball. It looks amazing but weaker player always loses the ball. You would be wishing that there was a button with which you can put players body to defend the ball. You will likely end up passing the ball or loose the momentum fending you the defender.

The improvements on pitch are gradual but elsewhere it is still the same. The Transfer windows are much more realistic now as compared to before but you can still find Neymar available in first window of transfer.

Commentary is still pathetic. The commentary is so annoying you would be turning it off in a short while and the dialogues are recycle of last year.

This still remains the biggest problem of PES, the gameplay is superb but the overall presentation is lack luster. MyClub is still good fun and lasts for hours but it does not stand anywhere close to Ultimate Team.

Online servers have been greatly improved over last year and gameplay experience is lag free. The multiplayer matches closely resemble the offline gameplay, the experience is that good.
