REVIEW : South Park : The Fractured but Whole (PS4/ PS4 Pro)

Ubisoft has bested themselves in creating the ultimate South Park experience. South Park the fractured but whole is absolutely hilarious and sometimes even more outrageous than the tv show. In terms of gameplay mechanics, there are some bugs which need ironing out and the simplistic gameplay doesn’t help carrying the amazing fun of the series over a prolonged period.

South Park has always believed in crossing the line, infact the line is so far away it is not even visible in rear view mirror and the game follow the suit amazingly well. If you get easily offended by things, than the game is not for you at all. People familiar with the series should not be disappointed with the well-crafted jokes Fractured but Whole has to offer. There is everything here to offend everyone in the world and people who will like the jokes or absolutely hate it.

The Stick of Truth has plenty of jokes to crack people up but the fractured but whole has all that and then some. Every cast present in the game gets their time to shine and every Joke from their mouth is absolutely hilarious. The long story and play time gives ample opportunity for every character to shine. There are little touches and hints which only a South Park would recognize and would absolutely love it.

Fractured But Whole improves on Stick of truth in every aspect of game. Combat is vastly more enjoyable. Battles now take place on a chessboard like plane and are still turn based. Placement of heroes, using your power and strategy to bring which hero to which battle play an important role. You will keep unlocking more move sets as you progress, keeping the combat fresh. We would recommend you to not compare the combat to other RPG games as the combat is still simplistic.

Following the suit, character development and crafting system are simplistic too. We are glad that these systems are kept simple for a South Park game as it is not bogged down by overly complex mechanics which are not really required.

Between the core missions there are lot of other things to do, which was not the case in Stick of Truth. The kids now communicate using mobile, hence the mobile screen pops up more often with Hero Requests.

These Quests are more like isolated story lines and not fetch quests. Even the fetch quests are enjoyable as they contain some solid one liners and jokes that make them immensely enjoyable.

Coonstagram, is the social media app within the game and manages your rep which you can increase by taking selfies. Most of the time Coonstagram feels like a throw away feature. People post comments on coonstagram but you won’t be able interact with them..

The power of your hero’s bum returns but now it includes space and time bending powers. Apart from dishing damage you can use abilities in and out of the battles. During a battle you can pause or reverse time to overturn a enemies turn. You can even summon past version yourself in the battle if you unlock the ability Ala the flash.
You can use your hero’s ass to team up with allies and unlock new areas during battles. Thanks to the New Systems, exploration is far more enjoyable than it was in Stick of Truth.

The game really suffers from bugs time to time. Game got stuck and had to restart the game, game was not stuck but was not taking any command, again a restart and a weird bug of all characters appearing on screen.
