Haemoimont Games have again created a brilliant City Building game with a Survival Twist. The game follows the same formula of city building but adds survival elements which makes otherwise a easy going genre, hectic in some scenarios.

As all city building sims start, first order of business is to secure resources. The basic resources available on Mars are Metals, Concrete, machine parts, polymers and electronics. You need to construct Domes in order for Humans to habitat the planet. Each dome has living quarters and Medical Facilities, farms, recreational centers and few extra areas. Some of these areas are essential has have to be built before time to avoid any problems.

Drones are the main workers in Surviving Mars. They extract resources, repair equipment, build and repair structures. They can be commanded manually or can be left at auto and the drones will take care of it.

As your settlements grow you would be able to research new technology, increase productivity of workers and increase the load that each dome carries. Each citizen of dome carries own personality with traits. These traits can either be beneficial for colony or destructive. These traits bring a new flair and you have to strategies what king of Humans you want in your colony. This keeps things interesting even in the later part of colony building.

The developer are veterans in city building genre. The game engine is very smooth and browsing around areas is just a breeze. Zooming in brings lot of details of that particular area. The detail in each area is outstanding and this is among the top city building games graphically.

Surviving Mars is very easy to play with a controller, as the game implements variety of ease of life features for the controller. With handy shortcuts and game helping in selecting near by object by cycling through them. The DS4’s touchpad could be used as mouse emulation but that opportunity goes a miss in this game.

There is a lot of lore in the game which are provided via mysteries. These mysteries involve finding key artifacts scattered around the planet. These mysteries may help or hinder the progress of the colony. Again, a refreshing take at this old genre.
