REVIEW : Tokyo Tattoo Girls ( PS VITA)
Tokyo Tattoo Girls is a weird game to say the least. From all the trailers and opening cutscenes it gives a vibe of being a JRPG. Ignoring all the initial perceptions and misconceptions, Tokyo Tattoo Girls is actually a strategy game.
The game is set in Tokyo as the name suggests. A disaster has struck the city and strange Tattoo start appearing on females giving them powers. The city has been quarantined off from the rest of the world. Tokyo is divided into 23 wards, each controlled by a certain clan with Power lady as lead. The story has a really strong start but falls flat soon after.
You will be taking the role of Tattoo Master and you take control of 1 of 6 girls to take over Tokyo. The background story of most of the characters is weird. For example, one of the characters is doing porn, so that her grandmother can see her in such movies and they both can meet.
You will start of by conquering one ward of Tokyo and then start expanding till you capture the whole Tokyo. You do this by issuing various commands like recruiting and hiding presence from Rival bosses. If rivals do take notice of your notice then that will cause an alarm to go off reducing the honor meter and when your honor meter reaches zero, it is game over. Game needs a tutorial to explain you all the game mechanics as it does a poor job of what to do where.
When you recruit all the inhabitants of a ward you will get into the boss battle with the clan leader. The boss battle is nothing but a conversation between the clan leader and your Tattooed girl, with 3 dialogue choice. You will win the battle regardless of whatever option you choose but best option results in gaining more of honor meter.
The game also features a Tattoo system. Whenever an in-game day passes you are offered some protection money which you can use on special commands or can be used to increase the Tattoo Collection of the girls. Different tattoo’s offer different powers like making it easier to recruit enemy or more money. Complete all the Tattoos and you will get to see Japanese Style Tattoo in all of its glory.
Tokyo Tattoo Girls does not have much depth to it gameplay wise and is good for short burst. The plot and character story are kind of pointless. The artwork is sublime and the best part about the game.
