FO Field 2.0 takes another field of application by storm / R&M launches modified version for butterfly cables

R&M, the globally active developer and provider of cabling systems for high-quality network infrastructures, based in Wetzikon, Switzerland, is launching another innovative field-terminable fiber optic connector that can also process FTTH butterfly cables quickly and reliably. The practical experience and feedback from numerous partners once again spurred the R&M development team on to further develop the successful, market-established field connector for Fiber-in-the-Home (FITH) applications. Especially in the case of blanket fiber optic rollouts, the field connector can contribute to significant cost savings. The normally high number of experienced splicers and amount of splicing equipment required for a conventional rollout is eliminated. The modified FO Field 2.0 has been available since January 2022. Initially available as an SC connector, it can now safely process all common butterfly cables and drop cables.

Particular importance was attached to a stable cable gripper. The innovative clamping technology of the new FO Field 2.0 not only fixes the cable jacket in place, but also the optical fiber inside. The FO Field 2.0 can also be rewired several times – a characteristic that is highly appreciated, especially in the field, by assembly workers and fitters.

Application tests show that the connection is significantly more stable and resistant than with comparable solutions. The transmission properties and attenuation values are retained completely and permanently.

Not just for FITH The easy-to-wire butterfly cables are often used in the Fiber in the Home (FITH) field. It was particularly for this area that R&M developed the modified FO Field 2.0 type. Its high mechanical stability and optical performance also enable it to be used in the «uncontrolled» range (-25°C to +70°C). R&M field connectors are also increasingly being used outdoors, where stable connections are required, especially in the case of fluctuating temperatures and high humidity.
