The Coalescence of Two Worlds: The Making of Mystical Platformer Eternal Hope

Indie studio Doublehit Games has been making waves since the unveiling of their new captivating platformer Eternal Hope. The enchanting Ghibli-inspired 2D puzzle-platformer is not only a thought-provoking story of love and loss mixed with dimension-hopping, but it’s also a testament to what a team of people can accomplish with their eyes — and hearts — focused on a common goal. Today, they are releasing a new “Making Of” video to showcase their passion for the game, and show viewers even more of what’s in store in Eternal Hope.

“We’ve worked tirelessly on every piece of content in Eternal Hope and our passion and dedication shine through every character and every level,” said Gabriel Oliveira, Director and Sound Designer. “All of the pieces of this project tie together, creating an immersive gameplay experience with a compelling and emotional story that will grip players from beginning to end.”

After working on primarily mobile titles, Eternal Hope was a major jump in both scale and scope for the Doublehit Games team. As the team explains in this new video, game development follows a unique ebb and flow — one that can result in new ideas and new avenues in gameplay. Before the Doublehit team knew it, Eternal Hope became something wholly new and exciting as it underwent big changes in art direction, gameplay mechanics, and features. After a rework of the game’s protagonist, game physics, and other behind-the-scenes elements, the team found even more ways to add greater diversity and realism to the puzzles and in-game tasks.

While the Doublehit Games team embraced the many changes along the Eternal Hope development process, the team kept its primary goal in mind: create a game that is equally immersive as it is beautiful. A game that will capture the hearts of players and leave them thinking about their own poignant life experiences, all tied into a captivating, colorful world full of eerie characters and dazzling environments.

Eternal Hope is a puzzle-platformer inspired by the artistic stylings of Studio Ghibli that gives new meaning to “life after death.” In the game, players take on the role of Ti’bi, a young, grief-stricken boy haunted by the untimely death of his beloved girlfriend. Ti’bi will venture far beyond the world as we know it to be reunited with his soulmate, and he’ll meet plenty of helpful or malevolent characters along the way. With the ability to travel between the real world and a purgatory-like realm called the Shadow World, Ti’bi will uncover secrets about life, death, and the peculiar space in between.

In development by Doublehit Games, Eternal Hope will launch on Windows PC via Steam on August 6, 2020, with an Xbox One release coming later this year.
