REVIEW : Gran Turismo Sport (PS4/ PS4 Pro)
Gran Turismo has a long history which connects with each generation of Playstation consoles, pushing each hardware to its limits while proving most authentic car simulation, well Gran Turismo Sport is no different. Gran Turismo Sport will please all the fans of previous games and also welcome the new crowd with its host of newbie friendly features.
GT Sport is brilliant driving game but also the first Gran Turismo which makes races thrilling. The franchise is known for its car handling but for the first time Gran Turismo sport brings the adrenalin rush of crossing the checkered flag first.
The GT Sport AI is much more advanced than previous games, they know how to be aggressive and take positions. AI fights for positions and looks for podium finishes which makes every race so satisfying to win.
GT Sport is not the best looking racing game out there but that does not mean it looks bad. The overall visuals look uninspired and dull and lack the visual flair most other this generation racers have. Car models and race tracks are recreated with laser sharp accuracy but apart from that there is nothing else to write home about in terms of visuals.
Well, this is not the main reason anybody would pick this game up. Gamers will get this game for how well it plays, how well a car drives, to drive their favorite car on a well renowned track. Gamers will lose hours on end just because GT Sport is so authentic gameplay wise. Also, for the FIA affiliated multiplayer.
Every car drives differently but very similar to their real world counter parts and if you happen to have expensive racing wheel peripherals, all your driving game dreams would come true. GT Sport is on point on how every car drives and fells, it is as good as Gran Turismo has ever been.
With that said, there are very few cars compared to its rivals and no dynamic weather is implemented, it seems the developer choose Quality over Quantity.
Presentation is very similar to Gran Turismo of the past and veterans will feel right at home playing this game. With more focus on eSports and online multiplayer, GT Sports developers took smart decisions and focused on the important stuff.
The single-player campaign proves this point perfectly. Although it weaker compared to Gran Turismo 6 but it is far more enjoyable. Previously the focus was on gathering as many cars as possible, now it is more diverse and divided into categories: Driving School, Mission Challenge, Circuit Experience and Racing Etiquette. All these categories are made up of multiple parts but it is not as expansive as previous iterations.
You can take part in standard races, marathons and quick races and even technical challenges races where you have to keep an eye on fuel and car balance. GT Sport provides great driving experience with plenty of variety to keep you satisfied.
GT Sport’s long term appeal is based on its online community, even if large part of the game is what you can do offline (you have to connected online for some of the features). With amazing improvements in racing and two officially sanctioned cups by FIA, GT Sport has lot to offer in online department.
GT Sport is an odd beast all together. It is a fantastic simulation experience which show Polyphony Digital expertise. While some may feel that it is a cut short version and developers could have taken their time and introduced more into the game. Still the game offers so much to driving fans that they won’t regret the purchase.
