REVIEW : SENRAN KAGURA Burst Re:Newal (Steam)
Senran Kagura Burse Renewal is remake of a remake. Original was Senran Kagura Shojo-tachi no Shinei which was later released on 3DS as Senran Kagure Burst.
The game has been completely overhauled ditching side scrolling adventure to a 3D environment.
You have to pick a school at the start of the game which you can switch easily when you are in the main menu. The stories of schools are vastly different with different mission structure as well. There are total 12 playable characters which vary in style and move set. Their weapons are different as well ranging from Katanas, umbrellas and proper firearms. The gameplay is very addictive and rising combo meter always keeps you hooked.
Missions include defeating hordes of enemies or a shinobi. This mission structure is followed throughout story with minor variations. This can get boring but the core mechanics are so solid that it is really enjoyable. You can use power ups along side basic hits. As you fight your clothes would tear off which would result in absorbing more damage making things difficult.
You can customize the outfits and also purchase costumes as you progress through the story. Graphically the game looks brilliant based on the same engine as Estival Versus. While the story is still told in comic stills style, wish they were fully animated.
