Scientific Games’ Buys Into Live Casino Market
The online casino landscape has changed a lot over the last decade or so. From downloadable packages, casinos have transitioned to browser-based solutions, from simple games, they’ve shifted to elaborate – and appealing – titles, and from pure RNG-based services, they’ve transitioned, in many cases, toward live dealer games.
Live dealer games are all the rage today. They combine the accessibility of “average” online casino games with the personal touch of brick-and-mortar casinos, offering traditional games like roulette and blackjack along with innovative formats, game shows and other products. Evolution Gaming is at the forefront of the industry but there are plenty of independent providers of similar services. One of them was Authentic Gaming, a company that’s just been acquired by the US-based casino equipment juggernaut Scientific Games.
Scientific gambling
Scientific Games has been on the US gambling market since the 1970s. Initially, it was active on the instant lottery market, creating the first such game that was secure. Over the years, the company was involved in everything from sports betting, especially parimutuel betting, to iGaming, then scaled back to focus on its gaming (both real-money and social) division. And now it continues to expand its offering – as well as its reach beyond the US – by incorporating live casino games into its offer.

The live casino market represents around 30% of the iGaming industry globally, and is a key product vertical for players. The acquisition of Authentic Gaming will allow SG to expand its in-house development capabilities in this area, as well as gain access to a series of regulated markets around the world.
