Which Video Games Have the Worst Ending Ever?

Some of the games you play have fantastic storylines and awesome features to give you exciting gameplay. However, some of the games fall short of their glory and wrap up with the worst endings that will ruin what you envisioned for the game.

Spending money playing your best games doesn’t sound like a bad idea; you are entertaining your mind after all. However, spending a huge sum of money on a rough game can leave you frustrated and unkind to whoever crosses your path. Wait until you enjoy a good game, only for it to end badly, opposite to what you expected. Sounds worse, doesn’t it? Luckily, you can uplift your foul mood with real money slots mobile, where you can securely gamble your sorrows away and even win real money! The following are arguably the top three games with the worst endings of all time:

1.      Mass Effect 3: Many Choices – Same Poor Outcome

The Mass Effect is a series featuring an exhilarating trilogy of games. The video game comprises a third-party shooter and involves Commander Shepard, who tries to save the galaxy from Reapers. Reapers are an evil synthetic alien race keen to destroy the galaxy. Mass Effect 3 features both open-world game and linear characteristics and is quite fantastic at giving you the option to make choices as Shepherd. However, your efforts are ignored towards the end of the game. The choices you receive throughout the game include:

·    Taking control of the Reapers.

·    Destroying them, or

·    Integrating synthetic life forms with organic ones.

All these are multiple choices, but the options make them null and void throughout the entire game. Moreover, later the developers added the 4th ending – to refuse make the choice altogether, and allow the Reapers to kill everyone. Which just means that all the progress you’ve made throughout all 3 games was just for nothing.

Fans and critics were angered and decried the game’s choices, as they felt like they had been shortchanged towards the game-ending. What an unfortunate flaw to such a fantastic game, up to a point that some had to make a mod (Happy Ending Mod)  to fix the ending. To show you how bad it was, here are some of the sentiments shared online by some disgruntled fans:

“The ending had to be fixed by a mod because it was so terrible! The happy ending mod is almost mandatory to have installed before you play it, otherwise it will ruin the entire trilogy.”

Some gamers thought that the ending contradicts lessons from the previous games and that the game sacrifices realism in vain.

Others had this to say about Mass Effect 3:

“Not even the extended cut can fix this garbage ending. This ending not only makes no sense whatsoever. But relies on deus ex machina and other garbage writing devices. All for an ending that in the end tells you your choices didn’t matter”

“It’s a great game with an epic final battle, but the last cutscene felt unsatisfying.”

2.      Bionic Commando: Your Wife Is Closer Than You Thought

The Bionic Commando is a 2009 remake of a classic game sequel to a 1988 SNES version. It is a fantastic game featuring a third-person shooter, featuring a protagonist with a bionic arm. And bionic commando is a pretty fast-paced game with a laudable combat system. It also features exhilarating gameplay, but the narrative behind the game is quite bland. The action game requires you to use the bionic arm to locate a group known as BioReign. You must destroy the group in exchange for information regarding the shooter’s missing wife, Emily.

A shocking twist of events is that the wife was murdered and her brain connected to the bionic arm. It turns out that the arm requires a catalyst for it to function. The best catalysts are loved ones, in this case, Emily, his wife. That the bionic arm only connects or attaches to someone emotionally is quite bizarre, giving the game a tasteless finish. Some people find this game quite disturbing, while others think that the idea of his wife living in his arm is laughable. As one writer put it, this was “one of the silliest plot twists in all of video game history involving a missing wife and a prosthetic arm.”

3.      Half-Life 2: Very Disappointing Ending

According to Ranker, video gaming fans ranked games in the Half-Life game franchise as some of the best-made games of all time. Their reputation isn’t far-fetched, as they feature exciting RPG video gameplay, complete with an interesting story and main character. When you play a Half-Life game, you are set to give it undivided attention, as their games give you a one-of-a-kind and engaging gaming experience.

But wait, there comes Half-Life 2, whose ending isn’t quite what you anticipate. Picture this; you have fought your way through aliens and zombies, considering you are in one of the most fantastic first-person shooters. You have even trounced hard-to-kill tripods, struggled to get through a big factory and set yourself for the biggest win. Only to be snapped out of your moment of glory by hastily getting you out of the game and even leaving your friend behind before the place explodes. What an anti-climax to an exciting action game!

Good thing they noticed this setback, though. Even Valve, the company that developed Half-Life 2, admits that the ending was unsatisfactory. That is why they focused on creating episodes to continue making up for what was not achieved in HL2 instead of moving forward with producing Half Life 3. As one frustrated fan put it on Reddit:

“I just finished playing through Half Life 2 (for my second time) and both episodes (for the first time), and the ending of Episode Two really put me off. I get tragic endings, but Eli’s death was absolutely worthless, and it really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Am I missing something here, or did the devs just decide to give Episode 2 a depressing and meaningless ending?”

Conclusion

Avid gamers know how frustrating and disappointing it is to enjoy an adrenaline-filled gaming experience, only for the ending to crush your hopes mercilessly. That feeling is like none other, especially if you have fought through tough and seemingly endless obstacles, only to reach an anti-climax at the very end. Going by online reviews, the above are the top three video games that disappointed fans with their worst endings.
