Bent Image Lab’s youAR Project releases a second secret augmented reality demo.  The confidential demo, created over 2 years ago, shows why youAR has a significant technological advantage over Blippar, Aurasma, and other mobile phone AR platform developers.

This video shows multiple users interacting, in real-time, with an AR Tank on a building that is over 100 yards away.  youAR lets users experience rich AR content anywhere a cell or wireless signal is available.

Each user’s device synchronizes in real-time via Amazon servers, by using an Android phone configured as a hotspot for an LTE network, to engage in the AR event.

Players can see everyone else’s actions – shells flying, explosions bursting, smoke billowing – as it happens around them in real-time.

Dr. Sung-Hoon Hong, current VP of AR and VR at Samsung’s Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), remarks, “This demo is amazing. So amazing. I joined Bent after seeing this and several other breakthrough demos because of the innovation and genius shown by the youAR project team.” Dr. Hong was a chief computer vision scientist on the youAR project from 2015 until August 2016 before moving to Samsung.

“We needed to prove that we could create a stable, multi-user, real-time environment for common devices,” said CEO Ray Di Carlo. “This tank field test gave us the data we needed to write our patents and continue pursuing our dream of creating a shared, multi-user AR platform.”

Chief Creative Officer, David Daniels, elaborates: “In the near future, content will be available in the dimensional space that surrounds you, regardless of where you are. Our platform will create persistent user to user AR.  This means that spatial content will not disappear when your device turns off.”

youAR will make Augmented Reality easy and fun to use, no matter where you are. A standard camera lens, attached to the average smartphone or tablet, is all youAR needs to function. No other sensors, head-mounted displays, or specialized equipment is necessary.

The platform is hardware agnostic and plans to be compatible with: Google Tango, Microsoft HoloLens and Kinect, Apple iPhones and iPads, and Android devices manufactured by Samsung, HTC and others. Companies whose products and services could also benefit from the youAR platform include: Startups Magic Leap and High Fidelity; social media entities like Facebook, Twitter, Snap and YouTube; mobile game developers such as Nintendo, Sony, Valve, and Activision/Blizzard; advanced scanning tools and services from groups like FARO Technologies or Topcon; gig economy companies like Groupon, Uber, AirBnB or Grubhub; cloud infrastructure providers like Amazon AWS, or IBM; chip makers like Intel, Nvidia, and Micron Technologies; and game engines like Unreal (Epic Games), and Unity (Unity Technologies).

youAR plans to make an SDK available for other developers to create their own experiences in late 2017.
