3rd Gen AMD EPYC processors power latest AWS EC2 C6a Instances

AMD announced that AWS has expanded its AMD EPYC processor-based offerings with the general availability of the new Amazon EC2 C6a instances powered by 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processors. Amazon EC2 C6a marks the second AMD EPYC processor-based instance types at AWS, after EC2 M6a.

According to AWS, C6a instances offer up to 15% better compute price performance over previous generation C5a instances and support compute-intensive workloads such as batch processing, distributed analytics, ad serving, highly scalable multiplayer gaming, and video encoding.

Numerous leading cloud providers have recently expanded their AMD-powered offerings – including just last week with Google Cloud’s GA of EPYC-powered C2D Instances. This adds on to the more than 130 new public instances powered by EPYC processors
