Andrew Kenady’s retro platformer C.A.R.L. arrives on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation & Steam

C.A.R.L. – created by well-known YouTube personality Andrew Kenady and co-developed by Matt Bitner of Morningstar Game Studio (developer of A Robot Named Fight!) – is launching today on all major consoles and Steam!

Inspired by PC classics such as Cave Story, Speedy Eggbert, and Jazz Jackrabbit, C.A.R.L. blends classic platformer action with quirky RPG and story elements to deliver a clever, humorous, infinitely satisfying retro romp.

Get in the shiny metal shoes of C.A.R.L. (Computer Automated Resource Locator) – a small but daring automaton lost within the sprawling Kent Industries. Brave each perilous factory floor to collect Tech Units for his engineer friend – unlocking new areas and abilities along the way. Befriend defective robots in the D.U.M.P. (Depot of Unusable Machines & Parts) and gather items to bring the facility’s sinister secrets to light!

DEVELOPER QUOTES
“Andrew Kenady and I became fast friends while working as programmers at Hitcents on titles such as Battlepillars and Draw a Stickman Epic: 2. After leaving Hitcents, I went on to work on my game, A Robot Named Fight!, while Andrew focused on his work as a YouTube content creator. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I approached Andrew about completing his long-time passion project, C.A.R.L. It was an opportunity to work even closer together on a worthwhile title – which made the pandemic a little more bearable. I believe the results speak for themselves!”

–  Matt Bitner (President of Morningstar Game Studio)
C.A.R.L. is an idea I’ve had knocking around in my head for over a decade at this point. Around 2012, while I was in college, I studied computer science to eventually get into game development. I had this idea for a debut title – the sort of game I would always get lost in as a kid. That game is now a reality with C.A.R.L. I’ve been waiting to tell this story for a very long time, and I hope players will get something out of it – the same way that Cave Story and similar indie titles inspired me as a student.”
