Epic Games is headed to San Francisco next week for the 2017 Game Developers Conference and will once again be showing off an exciting array of new Unreal Engine features and projects. From Tim Sweeney’s surprise-filled “State of Unreal” opening session to hands-on demos of the most anticipated UE4-powered games, this year’s GDC promises to be truly epic!

JOIN EPIC GAMES AT GDC 2017!

GDC is nearly upon us and Epic Games is offering a glimpse of the projects and announcements that will be on-hand during next week’s conference.

Epic Games will be kicking off the conference with Tim Sweeney’s annual “State of Unreal” session, where he will give an overview of the engine, along with a few surprise announcements and guests. The team will also be giving several talks throughout the week to showcase cutting-edge tools and features while covering a wide range of topics, including UE4 development, VR, player retention and more.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to play hands-on demos of some of the most buzzworthy UE4-powered games, including Absolver, Blade 2, Exiles of Embermark, Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep, Lineage II: Revolution, RiME, Robo Recall, Robot Unicorn Attack 3: Forever, Snake Pass and The Siege and the Sandfox. Epic’s booth will be located at Moscone South 1024 and will remain open during all GDC expo hours.

In addition, Epic has announced that the Unreal Engine GDC Education Summit will be returning this year and will be open to educators for free. Marc Petit, general manager of the Unreal Engine Enterprise team, will be the featured keynote speaker and highlight the range of opportunities available to skilled Unreal Engine developers.

DEVELOPING BEYOND SEMI-FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

The semi-finalists have been selected for Developing Beyond, a $500,000 year-long competition by Epic Games and the Wellcome trust. Developers from throughout Europe were challenged to submit immersive and entertaining concepts based around the theme of “Transformations.” Each semi-finalist will receive $15,000 and be matched with a scientist to help further develop their concepts in Unreal Engine.

PARAGON WELCOMES SHINBI TO THE STAGE

Shinbi is the latest Hero to join the Paragon roster and is available for free through the v.38 game update. A global pop star known for summoning Spirit Wolves during her performances, Shinbi is a deceptive melee assassin who uses her wolves to dazzle her enemies and rip them to shreds in battle.
